Default Red Sonja 4K UHD (1985) (Arrow Video)

Confirmed to be coming via postcard with the Poseidon UHD. Likely a US only release as Studiocanal handles the films UK releases (and already has one out).

Credit to sfmarine for being the first to post (that I saw).

Undoubtedly USA only as it's controlled by Warner Bros. (via Turner's MGM library) in North America.

Good to see some more 80s WB catalog content coming along...

Guess details later.....Reads like the SC edition has the yellow color grading that plagues too many SC UHDs and poor encoding. Both I hope Arrow will address.

Appreciate the shoutout, gigan.

I will definitely be picking this one up. The Studio Canal release did not get the best reviews in the PQ category. Maybe Arrow will fix some of those issues.

Just hope Arrow also do a Blu Ray release too like with the Conan films. Would really suck if they only do a 4K disk release. I don't think Red Sonja ever got a Blu Ray release in the U.S. and when Shout was going to do it, it was going to be a Blu Ray release so it would really bite if Arrow getting the rights prevented the Blu Ray release from Shout and then have Arrow turn around and only do a 4K disk release shutting out BD users completely(when they were going to get a release if it had stayed at Shout).

I looked into importing the version available outside the US, but the reviews were terrible so I passed. If Arrow fixes, I'm in for sure.

Any idea when?

The SC is actually very nice transfer-wise. I think the colour grading led to some negativity. But it wasn't really an issue for me. I'm happy with it for the moment – though have to admit I might be tempted to buy the Arrow too.

I don’t either but I’ll likely double dip.

If the colour grade is improved I likely will also.

I like it too, yes yes teal and yellow something something, but that look really seemed to fit the fantastical material. What I want is a betterer encode than the usual SC trash and Arrow will deliver. If they "improve" the grade then fine, but it's not my main priority.

Not surprised but pleased to see this one to be announced. I kept thinking I should email Arrow and suggest they do a US release and fix the yucky colour timing but never got around to it. Still, maybe I helped to will it into existence somehow. Although that usually only happens when you buy the old blu-ray or flawed UHD transfer.

Just hope they utilize the SC master because what Warner put out in HD on streaming is lousy and we wouldn't want them working from that same source. I wondered if that was why Shout canceled their U.S. Blu-Ray...maybe had nothing to do with it...but either way, what source material Arrow uses here is probably the whole story.

Not sure if you’re referring to my post with the air quotes there, but surely if Arrow’s grade aligns more closely with the original intent than the previous (as I understand it) revisionism, it’s an improvement by definition — regardless of whether one prefers the SC look aesthetically.

Anyhow, will be looking forward to more info regarding this release.

Hopefully Arrow do another LE boxset, I usually prefer the slimmer package with slipcover but this would go so well with the two Conans.

I know some are not appalled by the color grade, I am, the colorist at Hiventy went nuts on this one, and it's not isolated.
They also applied that crazy yellow/green for Le Gendarme de St Tropez, it's terrible.
Brotherhood of The Wolf has it too (the metropolitan French 4K, dunno about the other territories), fortunately it's not as egregious there.

There may be more examples but those 3 have striking similarities.
