One good way to research products is on Amazon. Plenty of information on each product and buyer reviews on the products as well. A thousand is a bit on the low side though. You might score on amazon with a used one thats bigger and the latest PQ.

Get a Samsung Model doesn't matter. Just take your 1000 bucks and spend it on a Sammy with 1080p

1000 is kind of a low number when youre talking 1080p. might want to continue to save.

42 inch panny plasma is on sale at BB for 1699. 1080p gorgeous set.

i got my sammy 4065 for 1500 out the door a year ago, when 1080p was more rare/expensive.

id go with that panny though, makes me get a big rubbery one!

youll regret a small cheap tv i promise

You should also check CNET for some comparison pricing and reviews. You can learn a lot there and find some great deals.

I think the contrast is maybe a bit to low.

But the rest sounds good.

About 2200 dollars or 1100 £ ... I live in Denmark (EU), and there are electronics must more expensive. I guess the price in the US must be about 1500-1800 dollars

1. Get a plasma rather than LCD; plasma tends to have a much better picture (and I say this as a current LCD owner).

2. Save more cash; $1000 won't buy you much and you'll have to live with that decision for a while.

3. Brands: Pioneer and Panasonic tend to be leagues ahead of their competition, so if you stick to their models you won't go wrong.

Good luck and have fun!

You could buy a 720p Panasonic 42" plasma for close to $1K. I know 1080p is the "standard" now, but the differences in PQ for that display size has not been significant to my eyes. Most all programming other than BD is 720p or 1080i anyway. If you get a Blu-Ray player, it will still look amazing on that TV.

The Panasonic displays look great, period. I think you would be VERY happy with that television.
