Default Grain? Mystery Solved.

So I was watching an up-scaled Brotherhood of the Wolf on DVD last night and guess what I saw in less detail than BD?

GRAIN! Yes it does exist period. Final conclusion is that DVD will not show it as clearly as BD can. Grain is not a by-product of Blu-ray. It is what the master print is delivering to your movie viewing format. Mystery solved.

I will now begin working on multiple movie formats longest and most perplexing anomaly known to HD Man (and woman). Those mysterious and annoying Black bars. I'll keep you posted on my progress as discoveries are made and hypothesis annihilated. Wish me luck on this one...

Speaking of which, that's one movie I'd like to have on BD.

I've also noticed the grain in SD-DVD when upscaled. But seriously let me know when you figure out the mystery of these enigmatic black bars.

Edit: I wonder if they're in any way related to the black monolith's in 2001

Your code word is "cherry". If you get in too deep, say the word. I'll pull you out.

Fantastic Don Quix...er Marcus! IIRC the black bars are on the top so you don't see microphones during filming, and on the bottom because actors are notorious for not wanting to wear pants when practicing their craft. I have a friend in the movie business who told me this (he works at Suncoast so he's reliable).

I have to admit that I'm a little embarrassed that the answer is so simple

Could we use,... say... "Peanutbuttercup" instead? I'm not real big on fruit.

Apparently so. I guess I should call the expedition off aye, unless you can think of another use for the mules

What do you think is the grainiest upscaled SD movie?
I'd go with Life Of Brian

Missionary Man starring Dolph Lundgren.

It was a slow week to rent movies

I have noticed that if I douse my eyes with lemon juice before a movie, grain is much less noticable...

hmm I'll have to try that. The only solution I've come up with was to take out my contacts. Then again, without them in I can't tell Dracula apart from my tv being off.
