USA Golden Harvest Collection Volume 2: Shining Stars (Shout! Factory)

Shout! Factory will be releasing the second volume of their Golden Harvest Collection, with the theme Shining Stars, in December!

Update 3: Shout! has now created a Replacement Slipcase form to fill out. They expect them to be shipped out in May. Special thanks once aagin to playsignal76, who has been instrumental in getting the ball rolling on this issue.

Thanks for your continued patience and for helping to identify the issue with Golden Harvest, Vol. 2: Shining Stars, which we've been able to isolate and are currently reworking and reprinting the cases to correct for future printings.

If you would like to receive a replacement box when they arrive, please fill out THIS FORM. We are unable to ship outside the US or Canada; if you are located elsewhere, you will need to have it shipped to a contact or freight forwarding service.

We expect replacement cases to be shipped out in mid-May.

Thanks for your continued support,
Shout Factory
Previous updates/details of the tight packaging:

[Show spoiler]

Update 2 (1/30): Shout may instead be replacing the slipcases rather than the plastic cases . They've already started a replacement program for the Shaw Bros. Classics Vol. 5 set. Please standby for a replacement program for this release as well.

Update: Due to a manufacturing error, some releases of this set, as well as the Shaw Brothers Classics Volume 5 release have cases that are slightly bigger than expected, which makes it extremely difficult for them to get out of their slipcases. Shout is offering a replacement for them. You'll need to contact them at info@shoutfactory.com

Full credit for this goes to playsignal76:

"Apparently, our manufacturer, without our knowledge, built some (but not all) units of these two sets using clear Blu-ray cases that are slightly larger than our standard spec. As a result, they fit in the rigid slipcase, but make it very difficult to get the cases out.

We'll replace the cases for both, which should break down per the below. Please confirm your current mailing address and we will dispatch the replacements to you as soon as possible.

*****

Shaw Brother Classics, Vol. 5:
5 x 2-disc clear Blu-ray cases
1 x 1-disc clear Blu-ray case

Golden Harvest Vol. 2: Shining Stars Blu-ray:
4 x 2 disc clear Blu-ray cases"
Update: A couple members have reported that the outer slipcase for this set is extremely tight with the individual cases being nearly impossible to get out, or be put back in. Another member (playsignal76 ) reached out to Shout, and this was was their response/suggestion:

Quote:
"Thank you for the heads up. We’ve reviewed this set in office and agree that it’s a tight fit, but it is possible to remove the cases by lightly shaking it with the cases pointed downwards. We’re reviewing the slipcase dimensions with our SVP of production to ensure a looser fit on future releases."
There is also a possibility that SF may be replacing, or correcting the issue for future pressings of the set (again, credit to playsignal76 for his inquiries on the matter)

Quote:
"We're reaching out to the printer to get more information about what happened here. Because of the holidays, we're unlikely to get an immediate response from them, but hope to have some more information in early January. Stay tuned."

Other Notes: The English version of Slaughter in San Francisco appears to play with subtitles turned on by default. In order to disable them you must go to the main menu > Play > Bonus > Settings and turn off subtitles. (Credit to jibboo)

In December? Holy moley. Figured they would skip a month before the second one at least. Will be interesting to see what's included in this set.

I think by Shining Stars, they're making note of films with bigger name actors. Assuming the films I listed are in there, it'll include notable actors of the sub-genre like Angela Mao, Jimmy Wang Yu, Carter Wong, Sammo Hung, and Chuck Norris, among others.

MY LUCKY STARS (the Criterion one) is the second film in the series. WINNERS & SINNERS is first and TWINKLE TWINKLE LUCKY STARS is third (both Shout).

Thanks, updated my post. I had looked it up right before posting too, but I still had it in my head that My Lucky Stars was the first

Some titles that SF have the rights to, and are speculated to be in the set include:

Beach of the War Gods (1973)
When Taekwondo Strikes (1973)
The Skyhawk (1974)
Slaughter in San Francisco (1974)
Great movies, but I've already got three of them on Blu! I'm hoping for some of the more obscure early GH martial arts ones...

Hmm. If these turn out to be the 8 films I haven't gotten yet from Eureka, then this would an incredible value. About half the cost than Eureka.

So Broken Oath is getting released by Eureka as well in the coming months. Interesting. Questions is weather to cancel pre-order over on WowHD for it.

Guess I'll see what Shouts extras will be vs Eurekas and the transfer.

lol good catch. Okay, so not canceling my Broken Oath pre-order.

I thought it was weird that the set was called Rising StarS but only one was going to be featured.

From shout factory? Hmm. Yes, noticed the date is very old. Wondering if vol2 would be an hd update, or different films?

Anyway, thought this was valid. Sorry for any confusion

Besides Taekwondo, it is possible one or two more of the Mao films could be in this. Queen's Ransom and Broken Oath are obviously out.

The Tournament was one of three films that I speculated in another post in the SF that could be in the set. At that time I was going with the assumption that the set would be 70's themed, so I limited my guesses to that decade.

The Tattooed Dragon (1973)
The Tournament (1974)
The Dragon Tamers (1975)

Don't hold me to this, but the info I'm getting suggests this will have the same MSRP ($99.98) as the first volume, despite having 2 more films included.

Pre-order now up at Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGY3LTFD

They have the following credits:

Quote:
‎ Jet Li, Brandon Lee, Jimmy Wang Yu, Angelo Mao Ying, Chuck Norris
So, it looks like Legacy of Rage, and Slaughter in San Francisco are for sure being included. The Jet Li film could be any number of titles. Limiting it to what 88 Films and Eureka have released, my gusses are either Kung Fu Cult Master, or The Bodyguard From Beijing

Brandon Lee didn't make any films for Golden Harvest.

The Jet Li film could be The Master.
