Default Deadwood on Blu-ray

Deadwood: The Complete Series Blu-ray Review

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html

Down towards the bottom it says season one of Deadwood is pending a release date, but that the "speculation" is based off of past press releases or official statements made by the distributors. I also see it's listed on amazon.com, but no official date is attached.

Could this be? I want this more than any other single title, period. Deadwood is the greatest/only 36 hour movie ever made. Can i get a hallelujah?

Hallelujah.

Deadwood & Rome are two HBO blu-rays sets that I've been dying to get my hands on.

I guess everyone is at work and doesn't have internet access. I know there are Deadwood freaks like me on here. Where are you SquidPuppet?

Yeah, i know the amazon thing is sketchy, but seeing the bit on Highdefdigest where they mention "official" sources or press releases is what peaked my interest. Even though i've googled Deadwood bluray to death and can't find the sources they refer to.

If they can't finish the series the least they could do is give us the bluray. God, i could watch this show endlessly.

Some of 'Swedgens' monologues were genius. He would ramble for minutes on end about deep and poignant issues, all the while using the F-word 30-40 times. Classic writing. I've never seen actors portray characters struggling with their own inner demons so well.

Riff, if you had to pick a favorite character, who would it be, and why?

I pick Al Swearengen. Remember his "Mercy killing" of the preacher? Of all the people to show compassion.. And only Al could demonstrate it in such a dark way. Better than 90% of all MOVIES I have seen.

Deadwood has been listed on that site in the pending category for probably a year now, it updates every once in awhile but never any news. I would love for this great show to come out, especially since I missed the final 4 episodes and I never got to see how it ended. But I'm not holding my breath for these blu's.

Geez, what a hard question, but it has to be Al or E.B. Farnum, doesn't it? Al is just so complex it's not even funny. As the series goes on you realize there are just so many layers to his persona and of course he goes from being the obvious bad guy, to not so bad once Tolliver and Hearst show up. Yes, his B.J. monologues are some of the best things i've ever seen/heard anywhere and the mercy killing is insane, as he instructs Johnny on how to properly suffocate someone. He's a very deep thinker, but in a down to earth and day to day sort of way. Self preservation seems to be everyone's goal in Deadwood, but only he realizes that sometimes you have to eat sh@t and make compromises to get what you want. Heck, he even allies himself with Bullock in the end because he knows it's the right play.

E.B. on the other hand is so obvious. He lives in constant fear of everything and everyone (except Richardson), yet never misses a trick. The monologue as he scrubs the blood stain off of the floor is classic. He's like some wretched con-man from a Dickens novel or something.

Such great writing, acting, directing, set design, etc. Everything feels so real and authentic. I just can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure everyone who loves it feels the same. It's like white trash Shakespeare, and i mean that in the best possible way. The replay value is off the charts as well. Better than 99.5% of the movies i've seen.

If i knew the blu's were never coming i'd bite on the complete series they released last winter, but i heard that it wasn't remastered or that there wasn't much in the way of additional material. Meh.

Ok, well Tru Blood IS coming out and it's not a fraction of the show deadwood is/was. I'm sure the rest of the Sopranos is coming out eventually.
Big Love=Meh
Rome=Good, but a little too reliant on shock and awe.
SFU=Good, but a little tiresome after a while
Carnivale=Great, but talk about leaving you hanging. It's worse than Deadwood in that regard. Really, the only thing that needs resolution in Deadwood would be the Bullock/Alma-Garrett-Ellsworth dynamic and i'm not so sure Milch will see fit to re-visit the series just for that. He seems to be very anti-cliche. Oh yeah, it would be nice to know what happens to the doc, even though it's pretty obvious that he's dying.

HBO sees fit to release John Adams and Gen Kill this summer, so maybe if we keep buying their blu sets they'll see there's a market to put out their older titles.
Fingers crossed.

Yeah, Deadwood is at top of my list. Sopranos is my favorite. I still want the others I named badly too. And I agree, why do we get Adams over some of the big, popular ones. Adams didn't interest me much at all, no way I'd buy...

Already own on DVD but would love it to be on Blu-Ray just so more people see it. It's one of the best shows period.

You see the show exactly the way I do. It aint about the surface material, it's all about whats brewing underneath...what isnt said. Even the hookers are not cardboard characters. Deep and multifaceted personalities born of years of abuse, self abuse, resentment, fear. I'm stopping now, or I'll go out and buy the DVDs.

I really enjoyed John Adams. A lot. If anything, it was too short.
