Favorite Non-Oscar Nominated Performances: Actor, 1944

As the title of the thread suggests, we're looking to pinpoint the Next Best Celebrated Film Performances of history.
Plenty of great turns get ignored or forgotten through the sands of time, and this is a quick way to review and vote for our favorites.

This is for the North American calendar release year of 1944, so to save us clicking on Wikipedia, the following Oscar nominees are exempt:

Best Actor - Bing Crosby, Going My Way
Charles Boyer, Gaslight
Barry Fitzgerald, Going My Way
Cary Grant, None but the Lonely Heart
Alexander Knox, Wilson

Best Supp. Actor - Barry Fitzgerald, Going My Way
Hume Cronyn, The Seventh Cross
Claude Rains, Mr. Skeffington
Clifton Webb, Laura
Monty Woolley, Since You Went Away

Note: Barry Fitzgerald in Going My Way being nominated in both categories is not a typo. The Academy modified the rules after this year so this anomaly wouldn't occur again.

Anything else is fair game! You may notice that the choices are primarily Leading roles, but I'm not going to disallow other selections. It doesn't seem fair or sensible to quibble about Lead/Supporting categories.
