I can recognize Mindy from the picture above, but from other screenshots I thought it was Lilly Singh for some reason.

I don’t get why this is being connected to Scooby-Doo at all. No gang, Velma is by herself, different race, different universe, and it’s being aimed for adults.

It could not get any more obvious WB literally just wanted to name this show Velma to connect to an existing IP for the sole purpose of drawing attention to it. They’re so scared of originality they shrink away from it lol. For all creative intents and purposes, this has nothing to do with Scooby-Doo, and calling it Velma just looks and sounds forced.

Well like the article points out Velma has been Asian in the TV movie and she fit just fine but it’d be more meaningful if they introduced an original East Asian character into the series. Not just change one of them.

Anyway if has nothing to do with Scooby and she never meets the gang it’s not a spin-off it’s a totally different cartoon. A spin-off is something that still exists in the same world.

A more mature Scooby series would be interesting but not like this.

• now, South Asian

She really can do it all. I've never seen a character race-swapped in the span of 13 years.

Sounds like the casting call was for a live action Captain Planet, and the producers changed their minds but kept the cast.
