It’s been almost 25 years since Edward Scissorhands — Tim Burton’s unlikely love story featuring Winona Ryder, Anthony Michael Hall, and Johnny Depp as the world’s most gentle Frankenstein monster. And in celebration, Fox Home Entertainment is releasing a restored, special-edition Blu-ray.


The commemorative package, which will be released on Oct. 13, can be pre-ordered at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Fans who pre-order will also be able to snag an exclusive limited-edition lithograph (above), designed by artist Mark Englert in partnership with Gallery 1988.

“Edward Scissorhands is one of those timeless movies that just works on so many levels,” Englert said in a press release. “I love how the movie portrays creativity, success, love, fleeting acceptance, and the intense isolation that comes with being that special kind of different.”

The set will come with collectible film-inspired premium items, and will also include never-before-seen bonus footage. Preview the package below, as well as the official 25th anniversary logo.

I don't care for the film but what I find very interesting about this announcement is that it's Fox who is releasing this, and in such a nice-looking set. I hope this means that the studio will produce more of these sets for other films.

Now this is fantastic news IMO anyway. Been waiting for Fox to do a new scan on this film! hopefully, it's a 4K scan with a high bitrate AVC encode. I have the original blu release and for an MPEG 2 encode, it doesn't look half bad. Anyway, let's hope that this remastered news turns out to be true.

The old UK BLuray says it's the extended edition.
That means it is extended compared to the British cut, thus making it the theatrical cut, or is it extended contrary to a shorter theatrical cut?

Those physical extras are just...sad. This release kind of feels like something Warner would do, you dont see too many from Fox.

The junk in the box really is JUNK lol. I like the box and I hope in the end it is a new remaster.

There were already 4K DCP's. And FOX asked to remaster the audio as well, not so long ago:

Audio Mechanics was asked by 20th Century Fox to update the audio for a new Digital Cinema Package (DCP) being made for Tim Burton’s 1990 release, Edward Scissorhands. The original 35mm mag LCRS D-M-E stems were digitally captured (and preserved) then analog noise removed from each track and finally re-mastered to make the restored LCRS soundtrack. The result was well worth the effort as the presence of the dialogue and the hauntingly beautiful Danny Elfman score were markedly well defined.

Fox used the same old transfer for the recent re-release of the original Planet of the Apes, even though they've recently restored the movie in 2K.

Take this news about new transfer with a grain of salt, until another confirmation pop up somewhere.

I never did pick up the old release, but a "restored" version definitely sounds like it's worth a purchase for me!

I hope this will be available in a regular keep case. I am not at all a fan of "swag". If there's a new transfer and/or additional extra features, I will gladly pick this up...probably my favorite Tim Burton movie, and it makes me cry every damn time.
