Now, ... If you like you can read thousands of ideas about how to make the Sony UHD BD player work or you can buy a Panasonic player because the Panasonic player actually works. The choice is yours. One recent "fix" is to have a flash drive in the player... so,... you can try that or any number of other ideas. Maybe do some sort of spirital ritual with your X800m2 to exorcise the demons. ... I don't have the willingness to use defective players but it's like Microsoft -> there is a kind of thrill in thinking you can make it work. I had 2 X700s ... I thought the UHD BD format was defective before I switched to a working player. edit - The best news is if Best Buy still exists you can verify the Dune disc works and if not return the player. (I stopped shopping at BB a while back so you have to look into it.) Last edited by bhampton; 11-13-2024 at 08:52 AM. |

If you don't need any streaming applications etc, then Panasonic DP-UB450 would be a decent candidate also. I have that as a secondary player and never had any problems with it. The player itself is very lightweight and the feeling of cheapness is very strongly present, but like I said, no issue thus far. I don't know - nor does anybody else - about the longevity of these players. That is why I bought the Magnetar. Then again, I can only hope that the price really means quality components and quality control.

Another benefit of going with a Panasonic 820/420 (not sure about the 450) is the ability to play many region locked discs using the top menu trick. Keep an eye out for black Friday sales, as this is when you should be able to find an 820 under $400.

I think if it's formatted so that the player doesn't complain (which mean likely ExFat) then it doesn't matter if there is anything on it. This is just one of the many magical fixes for this player that has been proposed over the years. The great thing about this one is it's like the most recent.
For more information see this post ... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=2783 Note that there are over 2000 posts of people trying to find a "fix" for this clearly garbage player. And, there's always someone who has never had a single problem chiming in as well... I think it's like a law or something because that will always happen. By the way- My Panasonic players (every one that I have or had) can not load my Crank 2 blu ray unless I have a flash drive installed. There is a bad BD+ code on the disc and it just won't load unless a flash drive is present. This was true for the 420 and the 9000 and the 150. This is just a case of a badly author-ed disc not a fault of the player. Last edited by bhampton; 11-13-2024 at 11:21 AM. |

Thanks will give it a try. My wife is not happy whenever I upgrade anything so to keep peace in the house I always try and get as much life out of any bad purchase as I can. And used to buy a lot of stuff before investigating them that much, lesson learned with that Sony player and I've been better since.

I would honestly love for anything to work.
The layer change is often the problem so some storage could result in a buffer and it's not impossible that it would help. I think the X700/X800 - Needs a fan ... I just think it gets hot. I don't have one to test. Dis-abling internet functions and connections often can help a disc player to not get confused. Last edited by bhampton; 11-13-2024 at 12:22 PM. |
