Amazing!!!!

This bypassed Blu-Ray entirely, it was DVD-only until now.

It was a gargantuan financial flop in its day, it failed so spectacularly in its limited Oscar qualifying release that they never even bothered to put the added marketing money into giving it a wide domestic release at all. I'm STUNNED but thrilled that they're bringing this to UHD.

I’ve been wanting to watch this and compete my Soderbergh collection, so this is exciting!

Very pleasant surprise, this. Never got to see it in theaters, rented it on DVD, and found it very stylish and underrated. Long overdue for an HD reappraisal.

This and The Informant! will be a MOD-distributed title for anyone wondering.

I was thinking this would end up a WAC title at some point.

It's the closest to one without being one. They are MOD releases just like WAC, and the Blu-ray template is exactly the same as a WAC release, just without the branding.

This on 4K? Color me more than mildly surprised. Must be a great day for Soderbergh completionists.

Yes, but they are still not officially WAC, I was thinking that the BD would end up being a WAC title since they have been backtracking on some titles during period that never received BD disc, like Must Love Dogs and For Your Consideration. It never occurred to me that it would be a MOD UHD, There really should be a separate 'sticky' thread dedicated to the MOD UHD discs.

Great movie. Only thing I didn’t like was the language. Nothing against cursing but kind of wish they didn’t to make it feel even more like a movie from the 30s/40s. Otherwise great.

For better or worse, that was part of his whole artistic vision. The cursing, sex and violence are intentional. He said in interviews that he wanted to make a movie that looked like it was made in 1946, but without any of the restrictions on content that the Production Code required. I agree, I'm not sure the experiment worked entirely.

BTW, Soderbergh said the movie he studied closely as a model for 1946 filmmaking style was HUMORESQUE, which WAC recently released. They'd make a great double feature.

I like to think Soderbergh personally pushed for these.

Hopefully it means he's also putting the finishing touches on that box set of his early films he's teased numerous times. Looking forward to finally watching Kafka in a restored version alongside the new cut.

Didn't expect this. Honestly, this was a movie I was very excited for back in the day but I found it pretty underwhelming. Still, might get it for old time's sake.

If that's the case, I'm gonna need Traffic soon. The color filters on that could look extraordinary on a good UHD.

Agreed. Especially since the Criterion BD was sourced from a Datacine transfer that looks quite dated now.
