Arrow will be releasing William Friedkin's Cruising on 4K UHD in the US on February 25th! This will be the original theatrical cut without the revisions that were applied to Arrow's previous Blu-ray release too.

Not to toot my own fist over here, but, and with some apologies to my real life spawn, the greatest thing I ever did in this godforsaken life is possibly getting the bawl rolling on an Arrow release to begin with:
![]() https://mobile.twitter.com/Frangipan...28492307267584 And now that this 4K is happening, it’s makes it even the more betterer. Especially all these extras! Why do I love this film so much… |

If Arrow is able to liberate this from the excessive DNR that I'm convinced was applied to their Blu against their better judgment, this is gonna be an astonishing presentation.

The blurb on the Arrow website states:

We'll have to wait and see on color, which Friedkin definitely lent some extra saturation in the latest master. He also gave the movie a substituted opening, replacing the ROCKY-style title, but on the other hand he undid the weird speed-up effect that was added to the DVD-era master (sometimes still the one on streaming platforms), in the scene where Pacino is dancing on poppers. I know the original audio track was quite problematic, and there was a ton of revisionism on that front as well, at least in terms of clean up.
Since there's been so many permutations over the years, I'd be surprised if we truly get a totally faithful version of the movie as it existed in 1980, but that does seem to be what Arrow is advertising. If we get the same master as last time (also based on a 4K scan of what was clearly a pristine negative) but just without the waxiness, I'd be contented. This movie needs to be grainy. |

It's a brand new restoration of the theatrical cut without Friedkin's various alterations. Geoffrey already posted this in the UK thread:

I'm not entirely sure how different the theatrical cut is compared to the existing Blu-ray apart from the Blu-ray's added title sequence. I don't believe the "Rocky" style title was used before the DVD either. I hope the color is done right this time. The DVD had far too much blue and the Blu-ray just looks strange with certain scenes having strong purplish or magenta casts. I'm curious to hear what work is going to be put into presenting the theatrical version. I'd always heard that the 35mm prints that were being shown over the past few decades had faded so I hope Arrow have managed to find something to assist with the grade. IIRC, there are moments that were supposed to have a bluish look to them so I hope they don't just remove it all after the amount of complaints the overly-blue DVD received. |

Unfortunately, no. Arrow should be releasing newer BD releases for this, and Alice, Sweet Alice too in my opinion, given both are getting new restorations.

It wasn't. Originally the film started at the Hudson river, no credits. The disclaimer was added after many protests from the gay community, not sure if the film was still in theaters or it was added for home video.

The disclaimer is on the original (badly faded) prints. I'm not sure if it was on all the prints to begin with or if it was added during its run but it was there before it was released on home video.
