Funimation releasing Speed Racer both Japanese and English

funimation has speed racer both japanese and english. lets hope for a redub as well.

It would pretty much have to if it includes the episodes not originally shown in the English version. Plus including the Japanese audio would kind of throw it off when having an English and Japanese version of a show that got edited for the English version on the same discs.

I wonder if they are going to release both the original edited US version for nostalgists or just do one uncut release Sentai/ADV did for Gatchaman and release it under the name Mach Go Go Go with the new dub and original audio as mentioned by you guys.

I never did figure out how the rights issues between Tatsunoko and Speed Racer were resolved, but I wouldn't be surprised if Speed Racer and Mach Go Go Go are actually two completely seperate licenses now.

Speed Racer is different from most anime in the fact that it has a lot of classic cartoon fans that don't even know or care that Speed racer is an anime. So this topic could go into several forums. I would say that the classic cartoon community cares more about Speed Racer than the anime community.

But isn't that mostly because Speed Racer has been American-ized for several years including even make our own Speed Racer series like that horrible Speed Racer The Next Generation along with The New Adventures Of Speed Racer and the live-action movie that wasn't a horrible Anime to Live-Action adaptation or at least compared to others.

Hope it turns out to be true.

We've been patiently waiting since last summer for an official announcement of the title, with date and details and pricing. And for now, we're still waiting on that; we've had no word from the studio on this item. However, thanks to reader Tony Adamopoulos, we've become aware that the Best Buy chain of stores (and their website, too) has listings showing that Speed Racer - The Complete Series on Blu-ray Disc will be available for just $22.99 (we're not sure if that's an SRP, or a discounted cost), starting Tuesday, May 30th.

Again, we'll emphasize that we do NOT have official studio-provided word from Funimation so far on that title, date or price, and therefore it may not be finalized yet and could be extremely subject to change. For example, Funimation's announcement quoted above says to expect "Japanese (w/ English Subtitles)"...yet other parties say that the English soundtrack with the familiar American-language audio will be included, too. We'll have to wait and see if Funimation's eventual official announcement will agree with that info, though. Stay tuned, of course, and we'll update you further on this item, as further developments occur!

I probably would have bought it if it weren't for the big stupid collectors edition lol. I mean the packaging folder things look nice but I still don't like them. These are from Funi's recent unboxing video.

If it was a car maybe I would opt for an overpriced CE but the nostalgia and importance of the series just isn't there for me personally to warrant the $300 price tag.

Yeah, this release is total bullshit. I never liked the dubbed show, but I was willing to blind buy the Japanese version, but not for $300. I wouldn't even pay $80 for the whole thing. Funimation is being stupid right now.

They are not price gouging everybody on this. They are only doing this to people that want the subtitled uncut version. They basically gave this thing away to the dubbies. Me thinks they are trying to make up all the money they lost by selling $20 dub only sets by raping the otaku.
