Arrow Panasonic DMP-BD10 Drive As A Burner?

Has anyone removed the drive from the Panasonic DMP-BD10 and used it as a burner in a PC? If true, how well did it work?

If this is possible it would make the purchase of this unit much more attractive for me. When the 2nd or 3rd G players with all desired features becomes available I would purchase one and use the drive from the DMP-BD10 in a PC.

I have hooked the drive to a PC using USB since I could do that without removing it from the player.

It certainly could be seen and using ISOBuster (iirc) I could see the file structure on the Bluray movie discs.

I did not have much success trying it with burning tools - it appeared to give unusual and varying info about what discs it could burn. I would be curious to see if it behaved differently if I connected it directly to the IDE cable in the PC. Once day I will give that a try...

In any case it certainly works as a reader and it is marked as one of the burner drives - though the firmware inside the drive may not be standard.

Where the heck have I been?

The Panasonic BD deck has a burner drive, and you can hook it up to a PC via USB?

Yes.

I should have some more time next week to have a look at this stuff and will report here what I find.
