Movies with messages you disagree with - Blu-ray Forum

There are many movies out there that send bad messages. I have not seen all the movies out there, so feel free to expand on this thread.

One movie message that I disagree with is the message of the 1994 movie "The Pagemaster". Its message was "If you're fearful, reading will make you fearless." Kids who picked up on that message and rushed to their local libraries thinking that if they read enough books they would become fearless were bound to be disappointed when they found that they'd read more books than they thought possible and their fears did not go away.

Richard Tyler didn't need a library card. What he really needed was to see a qualified psychologist/psychiatrist, or for his parents to spend some more quality time with him.

The movie's intent was to try to get more kids to visit their local libraries. Evidently they were thinking 'If "Top Gun" made people want to become fighter pilots and "Backdraft" made people want to become firefighters, then "The Pagemaster" will make people want to become readers." I am not aware of any evidence that "The Pagemaster" succeeded in that regard. I'm sure there are many kids who saw this movie and said to themselves afterwards, "I'm already fearless, so I don't need to read."

I know I have films I watched like this. Trying to think. While I'm thinking, for now, off the top of my head, I'll say Upstream Color. I'm probably missing the entire point of the movie, but it just came off like pro-vegan or something. That probably wasn't the point of the movie, but came off that way.

Will post more movies once they all come back to me.
