The Arse of the World's Mind
United Kingdom The Rebel (1961) & The Punch and Judy Man (1962)

Tony Hancock in HD:
The Rebel & The Punch and Judy Man

With half a decade of successful radio and TV series to his credit it was time for British comedy legend Tony Hancock to make the move into films, a step that would see Hancock aiming high, with ambitions to make it as an international star.

A whole new audience of appreciative comedy fans, as well as those already familiar with the films, will be delighted with our brand-new HD restorations of both The Rebel and The Punch and Judy Man – the former being one of Hancock's last collaborations with celebrated British comedy scriptwriting duo Ray Galton and Alan Simpson.

Enjoy!

Yup, great news about The Rebel (not bothered about The Punch & Judy Man). Thanks Network.

...so there's Summer Holiday just released (I haven't had a chance to buy it yet), The System & then The Rebel, & there was the Woodfall box & Room At The Top. Keep them British films a'coming

Are there any extras?

I've only got The Rebel which has a limited edition book of a film script written by Galton & Simpson which Hancock rejected. The type is very small so you'll either need eyes with a zoom function or a magnifying glass to read it. The only other extras are a trailer and image gallery.

Punch and Judy Man just has a trailer and image gallery. I don't mind the lack of extras considering the price (they're both 11.50 each with free shipping if ordered from the Network site - quite a fair price for beautifully restored films that are new to blu-ray).

I didn’t have any trouble reading the book, but the thickness of the Blu ray case is ridiculous. The book is so heavy it broke off the two plastic tabs that hold it. Anyone happen to know if there’s an off the shelf replacement case that size that would have clips? I emailed Network, but......crickets

Punch and Judy Man also has a facsimile of the publicity campaign booklet (at least mine did) but the text is too small to read - even with a magnifying glass!

They're designed by Lilliputians for Lilliputians, incredible shrinking men and women or Fantastic Voyagers.

FWIW if you search around you can find the script for The Day Off online if you want to read it.

Default The Rebel won't play in some blu-ray players

WARNING

I bought The Rebel a couple of weeks ago. My blu-ray player (an LG) won't play it at all, and just says it's 'not readable'

Exactly the same happens with my friend's player (a Samsung)

However, my neighbour's player (a Sony) WILL play it!!??

All the relevant firmware is up to date.

I've contacted Network about this, but they don't reply.

I have and they've now replied saying it's "a compatibility issue" (d'oh!) and that a replacement would only do the same thing...
They've offered a refund but I'd rather see the film...

A compatibility issue that's a suitably vague answer which could mean all manner of things.

If there was a compatibility issue with some or all LG and Samsung players you think that would be important enough to advise customers.

Apparently code TBFGuide19 will get you 10% off these two at Network (it doesn't work with other titles, at least the ones I tried).

Great to see more former Network titles staying in print through StudioCanal.

I hope we get a new release of UNEARTHLY STRANGER with an improved master; the current BD is showing its age.
