Great news, I'll be able to complete my Highlander collection since the Germans will have Highlander 3 coming out in February. And Highlander: The Source is out in Germany too.

Brave attempt to try and marry together the original film and the tv series, but not having a competent director onboard didn't help matters, and the narrative from the film is all over the place at best.

Anyone remember this promo for the film that featured absolutely loads of visual effects and action? Loads of shots from it never made it into the final film!

Trailer's looking good. Has been awhile since I saw the movie, some things I remember from this trailer but certainly not everything.

It's not a great movie but enjoyable none the less, for me at least. I am a fan of the series so I was happy Duncan, Methos & Joe made it to the big screen.

Something is off with this. According to HMV this is StudioCanal, not Lionsgate.

The "OP" part of the catalogue suggests it's Optimum (now StudioCanal). Wasn't the distribution deal set up so that Lionsgate would handle the US, Canada and the UK with StudioCanal handling the rest of Europe? This suggests otherwise.

I believe Lionsgate should be the distributors of this particular title.

This is a Miramax film, and in the UK both Lionsgate and Studio Canal release different titles of the Miramax library on Blu-ray.

On the BVA website, this is listed as distributed by 'Miramax', which usually indicates Lionsgate, and Miramax titles distributed by Studio Canal are actually listed as 'Studio Canal'.

Was there ever any confirmation about the PQ of the Honk Kong blu-ray compared to the UK BD ?

Also what are the extra on the Spain BD that the Uk does not have ?

The video portion is exactly the same. Disregarding the audio tracks, the video portion of the film is exactly 20 GB on both the UK and Hong Kong discs. A title card buried in the header of both says the file was created for Studio Canal by FotoKem on August 16, 2011. MediaInfo shows the videos are identical in every respect. (The UK disc has more audio options.)

I have trouble reconciling that with how the review of the Hong Kong disc was so harsh. I suspect that the player or tv set was applying noise reduction, creating the smeary mess that was reported. Looking at both files on a computer monitor, they both have natural grain and look alright.

I did buy the UK and sold my HK long ago because of those reviews , Well at least we have more audio options . Thanks for that very informative information , I sure wish they would release the entire box of the TV show on blu-ray . VEI has claimed its coming out for ages . Every time I write to them they say its coming . I sure hope they don't scrub it of all its grain like they did for the Baywatch tv show blu-ray set . I have season 1-3 of the older blu-rays .

It's worth remembering that a lot of the "grain" on the old DVD sets is actually just tape noise. Transfers have come a long way since those DVDs came out.

When I saw that promo video for the remaster back when it was announced (and then never released), I reacted the same way about the lack of grain. The grain was gone and I was upset.

But I've started to come around to the idea that grain is something that only people over a certain age like, and like it only for sentimental reasons. Modern shows barely have any, or if they do it is a very, very fine grain that is added in post.

So I've decided I will be alright with it if Highlander: The Series comes out and has very little grain.

(I've also started to feel that 24fps is also something that is a little unnatural but is liked for mostly sentimental reasons. Although 60 fps is far too realistic for anything other than behind-the-scenes videos, I'm starting to feel that 30fps looks pretty nice for dramas. That said I'm sure Highlander: The Series will be 24fps since it was shot on film. 24fps is what fans who made their own AI upscales ended up with.)

The Highlander TV series is an odd one as the show actually has a variable frame rate. Most of it was shot at 24fps, but some scenes were shot at 30, and they'd often speed up some of the 24fps fight shots to be faster.

Of course on TV it was shown at 60i, so 30p would probably be best for the Blu Ray release.

Totally disagree , If you have seen Baywatch on Amazon Prime which look great and I have the German blu-rays which are even better then on Prime , There night and day over the VEI wax junk scrubbed to death , It's got nothing to do with sentimental reasons . Baywatch was filmed in 35mm with some stock footage video taped and Germany all ready did the remasters . You can easily tell the video taped scenes which stick out like a sore thumb .

I'm hoping the delay in the Highlander tv set is there doing some work on it knowing the problems the first 3 season had long ago when they were only done in a 720P upscale... and claims that the negatives were in a fire which is B.S and debunked ....

They did not want to spend the money for a proper restoration , basically not popular enough to make a ton of money and they didn't bother just to break even or even lose money , It is a business after all .

The new movie if it ever comes out is probably what there waiting for to give the franchise some cash to restore these properly if ever. This unfortunately is not Star Trek .

They were shot in 16MM but finished for tv broadcast on video tape and would need lots of work.

I would bet we don't get a release of anything till this movie comes out and if not a success they probably will do a botch job like there Baywatch set for the casual cheap/thrifty fan . These shows were not recorded digitally so grain does matter !

UK (all extras are SD 50 Hz):
- Deleted scenes (5:42)
- Visual effects: A historical progression (36:13) (Opening sequence cut and no narration)

Spain (all extras are SD 50Hz):
- Deleted scenes (5:27)
- Visual effects: A historical progression (36:57)
- Behind the scenes (57:08)
- "imágenes de rodajes" (12:14) On set footage
- Trailer; Spanish (1:31)
- Trailer; English (1:38)
- TV spots (2:33)

It should be noted that the picture quality of the extras on either release is not very good, much like how they looked on DVD.
