Hi
After a long time I did an upgrade on my modest home theater, I changed my LCD 32 inch TV to a 4K LG 50 inch TV and my Denon AVR 1611 to a AVR X580 BT. Now I am having some strange issues with my PS5 where I sometimes lose signal for a few seconds, and it is intermittent, sometimes it happens constantly and sometimes it does not happen at all. I already changed the HDMI cable and tested plugging it in on a different port with the same result I suspect it is something to do with the HDMI Control or CEC but I am at a loss as to what exactly Any help would be greatly appreciated EDIT: Only workaround so far that appears to be working is that I turn off all HDMI control features on the AVR, the downside is just the minor inconvenience that whenever I turn on the TV first then the AVR, the ARC setting for the TV Audio gets reset to the TV speakers Last edited by mordeckai; 11-30-2024 at 01:45 PM. |

I've had this experience as well with multiple consoles and devices. It seems to be something or a random unresolved "handshake" issue. Oddly enough, I've discovered that turning my TV on first, then the receiver, then whichever device I plan to use, in that order, almost entirely eliminates it. In the extremely rare event that it still happens, power cycling the display will usually solve it.

I agree this sounds like a HDMI handshake.
You may be able to eliminate or reduce this by changing some settings. That's because when there is a new type of signal incoming it triggers this renegotiation by the display. For example, if you tell a source device to only output 4K you won't have this happen when something comes in as 1080p. |

If the video is being passed through the receiver, you may wanna check if it's got additional processing enabled. I disabled the video processing on my receiver and just have pass through selected.

Thanks all for the replies
To be honest I forgot about this forum post once it appeared to have been fixed but today I was watching a 4K movie and it happened again. Quote:
But I would like to ask, because I have been reading that some ppl apparently have the PS5 HDMI output directly to the TV and then use the eARC output from the TV to the AVR to have the surround sound. Is that another possibility? |
