Default PS3 questions

Hey guys I have been lurking on this board for a couple of months and despite being a 360 fan, I think you have talked me into buying a PS3. When I first heard Warner was switching over to Blu, I went out and bought the Sharp player without doing any research. It was a great surprise to me when I read about all the different Blu profiles after my purchase. The Sharp player has since been returned. I just have a few questions about the PS3 before I make the leap.

- How is the PQ vs standalone players
- How long are the load times?
- Is profile 2.0 currently available or will that be an update?
- How is the upscaling of regular DVDs with the PS3?
- Do all the models of PS3 share the same blu ray playing and DVD upscaling capabilities or are some better than others?

Thanks for your help

Go Blu!

1. PQ is excellent on the PS3. From the stand alone players that I have seen I would say that the PS3 is a 9.99 out of a possible 10 of a stand alone.
2. No load times on PS3
3. 2.0 will be an update. I don't believe they have announced when just yet
4. Upscaling looks great. Unfortunately I have not seen upscaling on a standalone to compare it to
5. All PS3 blu-ray players are identical

Go blu!

1. PS3 picture quality is excellent. (vs standalones it holds its own)
2. Load times are fast
3. Profile 2.0 not currently available, but the PS3 will be compliant.
4. Upscaling looks good (although upscaling is a gimmick feature). But it plays dvd's extremely well.
5. All PS3's are the same as far as playing movies and games

Right now the PS3 is the only blu-ray player worth buying as Blu ray is still an ongoing developing technology. Some early adopters of blu-ray systems are in basic danger of having their systems turned obsolete. Newer discs can't play on most of the earlier players and firmware upgrades aren't always possible due to not having an ethernet port or internal storage.

After testing a few of the systems, I can definitely say that my Ps3 is the best out there and only blu ray player worth buying. The quality is identical to standalone players and the load times are actually faster in most instances. Upscaling is negligible across the board with only a slight difference being seen in much higher end model standalones. All models of the ps3 offer the same drive although newer models debuting later this year will have a different and faster chipset (although PQ is not expected to change at all with only 1-3 second differences in load times)

Hope this helps! Buy a PS3!

GO BLU! TRANSFORMERS WHEN WILL WE BE TOGETHER?!

Technically they are not all the same as far as games. The new ones are supposedly not as backwards compatible (there are more old games they won't play) with older PS2 or PS1 stuff.

Plus, it makes a difference to games (in the long run) that one system has more hard drive space than another (though not to movies).

Can't go wrong with those two. I would also suggest you rent Heavenly Sword, it is on the shorter side, so spending 60 dollars wouldn't be in your best interest but you can beat it in one good sit down and it will be worth the money of a rental.

Man, you need to stop believing the FUD. the war is over. lol.

Profiles are done. Read the sticky above for detailed explainations.
Ethernet ports are a convienent way to update but not the only one.
Besides two Samsung models, name another player that can't play any currently released title?

I actually heard a while back that the 60GB had the best blu ray player, and with the new systems they downgraded because more people were buying it for the player and not the system not 100% positive though
