I am starting this thread because I've noticed that lots of titles lists incorrectly or confuses castilian with catalan. Both are languages spoken in Spain but they are quite different from each other (I speak fluently spanish and can understand catalan quite well). IMO Portuguese is actually closer to spanish than catalan.
Castellano is what you may call "Español de España" (Spain's spanish or simply Castilian). Catalan is an entirely different language. Please be careful when submitting the subtitle and audio specs for castilian. Thanx in advance. As an example of this we have Annie Hall's BD https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Annie...Blu-ray/34414/ On the audio and subtitle options you can see: "Catalan: Dolby Digital Mono" and "Catalan subs", when in fact it's "Castilian Spanish". The cause of the problem? Most of these discs includes both spanish "accents" (Castilian and Latin American), listed as castilian and spanish respectively. Hence the confussion, I guess. All these mistakes and troubles could be easily avoided by including more options for Spain's spanish aka castilian. More info about this: On castilian aka spanish http://spanish.about.com/od/historyo.../castilian.htm On catalan http://www.omniglot.com/writing/catalan.htm Last edited by Octavio; 02-16-2013 at 12:01 AM. |
