Riddick 4K UHD (2013) (Shout! Factory)

Shout Factory will be releasing Riddick (2013) on 4K UHD in December! It will include both cuts on 4K!

Update: One member has pointed out a strange edit made to this new release of the film, presumbably by the director themselvs sicnce they supervised the restoration:

I watched 4k Riddick from Shout Factory and I noticed that they cut out the bit where Riddick squeezes Dahl's butt after he is rescued near the end. I checked all the discs and all versions of the movie in this current set and the scene is cut and replaced with a weird fade out. I thought I was crazy until I checked the old Universal Blu ray and it's unchanged in both director's cut and theatrical cut and I also remember it happening when I saw it in the theater. Still disappointment, just a different flavor. Have to guess they will cheap out and stick the extended cut on a Blu ray just like Dawn of the Dead and World War Z's theatrical cuts. Also they did the same thing with Transformers in a way and the open matte version. But hey Steelbooks and alt slipcovers! If they do that I will wait for Turbine or a Euro label to slap them silly with a better version hopefully. At least it's not Criterion though! tee-hee

Ooh, was so close to watching the blu-ray the other night to finish up trilogy after Chronicles. But now, I shall wait. Shame Arrow couldn't bag it, but as the good Doctor said above - better Shout than Kino.

Their recent releases with multiple cuts are more promising: The Wolfman getting 2 separate 4K discs for its 2 cuts, and Drag Me To Hell has both cuts on 4K via seamless branching. For Land of the Dead, they went with the unrated for the 4K disc.

Yes, but not the theatrical. My point is Shout is only giving you one cut on a UHD. Riddick's longer cut would be an upscale in those other parts, so which one will Shout do on the actual UHD, I guess we'll see. Where Arrow is going the distance and giving you three UHD versions of the same film as you well know owning Chronicles

Considering Drag Me to Hell is having both cuts in 4K branched, this may have both

Damn, was really hoping Arrow to snatch this one. Maybe for the UK, huh? Would have been great to have all three from Arrow but Furya will be a studio disc anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. Hopefully both cuts on 4K but they skipped it with Army of Darkness so probably not.

Disappointing, but if Arrow had to lose out on one of them I'm glad it's this one and not the other two.
