Unfortunately, as with other Blu-Ray releases by 'Contracorriente Films'; spanish subtitles are forced if you choose the english soundtrack.

That's unfortunate but my Panasonic UB300 removes subtitles completely out of the frame.

I'll probably buy a UK or US release anyway but if there's none I'll get the Spanish.

The film was very good. If you can hide the subtitles (or ignore them) I would definetely reccomend it. I had to re-author the Blu-Ray to be able to turn of the subtitles though. Did the same with the 2022-drama 'To Leslie' by the same company.
I would expect DogWoof to release it in UK. But with physical discs loosing more and more ground to streaming, I don't know anymore.... They (Dogwoof) had 12 Blu-Ray releases in 2022, and only one single Blu-Ray release in the whole of 2023...

That’s not true, they released Squaring the Circle and Angelheaded Hipster as dual format. But yeah, I would say they’re essentially defunct as a label besides the occasional music documentary. Most of their VOD/limited theatrical releases will never make it to disc (though that was always the case - they just used to do DVDs for smaller titles) and largely don’t have import options besides I Am Everything and Meet Me in the Bathroom. Same with Altitude and Curzon for the most part. Definitely a shame with distributors I’ve supported in the past. Universal are still licensing out films to other labels (would like to see Rock Hudson: All that Heaven Allowed get one) while the National Geographic Documentary Films like Fire of Love will probably only be available on Disney+ (or the Amazon Studios titles with Prime Video).

I bought Squaring The Circle on Blu-ray -a very nice release and surprisingly good documentary. It's been released in the US too. Sadly I don't even see it on Dogwoof's shop site but they do link to it on their releasing site.


The sadest thing about films not getting a pressed disc release is nobody who buys discs really ever hears about them.
