although i thought it was one of the better films of the year, it's not something i'd watch multiple times at home. thus, i'll probably give it a rent when it comes out on bd.

I'll buy it on DVD and watch it upconverted on my PS3, when the Blu ray comes out I'll give the DVD to a friend.

bought the cheap version in standard def today, I figure I'll replace it when the Blu-ray comes out and give this to a friend or family member who doesn't have a blu-ray player.

I've seen the movie and thought it was alright. Felt like there was a lot of holes in the story. Now I hear there's a Directors Cut. So I'm wondering now. What's in the Directors Cut? What's the extra 18mins?

Ridley is an advocate of blu-ray (even going so far as pressuring the HD DVD exclusive distributor in Italy of KINGDOM OF HEAVEN to release it in Blu)... so I'm sure it won't be that long until it's announced.

I'll buy the BD when available. Until then, I have the SD. F*** the HD DVD.

I'll probably rent it in a few weeks. Right now I've still got several blu-rays to watch since I'm really starting to fall behind on them. Anyway, if it comes to blu-ray at some point I'll pick it up then.

I got it on HD DVD. One of the many "must have" Denzel titles regardless of format if you ask me.

I was at Best Buy today to buy A Knight's Tale (so hard to find nowadays), and I overheard a man asking a salesperson if American Gangster would be on Blu-Ray soon, to which the salesperson said that not right now because Universal is under contract with Toshiba. Apparently, he hadn't gotten word that HD-DVD is dead; heck, he hadn't gotten the memo when Universal's contract expired. Coulda inform the customer, but he was pro-Blu, so oh well.

Anyway, I'll be getting this one on day one and it'd be a blind buy too. I hope the Blu version will have some extras from the three disc DVD version.

This HD DVD got thrashed on engadget's review.
Here' some of what they said;

"American Gangster had the misfortune of being released on HD DVD the same day the format war died, and will probably serve more of a reminder of why red lost, than an example why it deserved to go on.....The audio and PQ present aren't bad, but don't meet the "reference quality" standards a film like this aspires to. Even HD DVD's HDi interactivity can't save it, with a picture-in-picture track described as a "slim afterthought" by HighDefDigest..."
