I've been monitoring the 4k reviews and I have to say I have been to date utterly underwhelmed. In fact I believe the best 4k release (picture improvement wise) to date has been Pineapple Express. I actually adore that film. But if 4k has taught me anything it is than any blockbuster or 3D release, or absolutely EVERYTHING with any CG has been mastered in 2k so the improvement for a xxxxing 4k upscale is marginal.
So, I started thinking, what great film shot movies with no CG would I want a 4k upgrade of? Either that you think their cinematographic excellence demands it, or it got a totally rubbish blu-ray release and the source is well above 2k? I'd love to say "Oh gee I'd like [insert comic book movie title here]" but given a) they were rendered the cg and probably mastered at 2k or less, and b) there is no 4k 3d, what is the point. For starters, I'd say - The Deer Hunter - First Blood - The Thing - Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Alien Last edited by Scottie; 02-26-2017 at 05:35 PM. |

My personal top 20 movies all predate both digital cinematography and CG visual effects, so bring 'em all on, I say. Topping my list would be those favorites shot on large-format film:
Blade Runner (fx plates shot on 65mm) Lawrence of Arabia Rear Window 2001: A Space Odyssey Vertigo And there are some others on my list with beautiful 35mm cinematography that would look wonderful in 4K: Citizen Kane La Grand Illusion Raging Bull Walkabout |

I get the impression that the decision makers in the film industry (incl those who decide what goes 4K) are of a younger generation that have very little appreciation for some of the great classic movies of the past. I don't mean B&W just pre 2000 would do. If it's about money? It's the retired generation sitting at home still with blue-ray players waiting to buys such improved classics.

Terminator 2
Training Day The first two movies that come to mind that I own on Blu-ray that I desperately want a 4K version of. That way I can own the 2160p version and hopefully the 1080p version will be down converted from the 4K master. I'm sure there are plenty of other movies i currently own that need that kind of remaster if I look through my lis. But I would really like these two first. A true T2 presentation. Also movies that never made it to Blu-ray, like True Lies and stuff. But I'll keep my exceptions in check. |

I totally read that as 'Brainscan' the Eddie Furlong cyber-slasher movie featuring T Ryder Smith.
------ Give me Terminator(1+2), Predator, One Flew Over the Cooks Nest, True Romance, Alien(s), Se7en, BttF, Beetlejuice, and like 5 different edits of Blade Runner and I'll be happy for a while. |

I know these aren't cinematic master pieces, but I would love to see Sony (Columbia Pictures) make good on
