Default My PS5 automatically turns on when I turn my tv on.

I need help. For some reason my PS5 automatically turns on when I turn my tv on. I have the PS5 hooked up to my Denon receiver through hdmi. My Denon receiver is not even turned on yet my PS5 turns on when I turn my tv on. This is getting a bit annoying. How to I stop this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Disable CEC in the PS5 settings.

EDIT: I believe it's called HDMI Device Link on the PS5.

"Bravia Sync" for TVs, "Device Link" for PlayStation, Sony too cool to just call it what it is, CEC.

Yeah, I also shut that off on all of my hardware. It's more of a hassle than it's worth unless a person wants everything all at once to switch on or off.

that is not true CEC works on HDMI being used (i.e. 1- if TV set to input PS5 then PS5 goes on, if you open TV on BD player t wont turn on PS5 because PS5 won't get a signal 2- if you turn on PS5 then it will send signal to TV and turn it on).

I think it is OK for an extremely simple system, but it is more troublesome then useful. A half decent remote with some powerful macros can do a better job.

CEC is great in theory, but poor in execution. What's most annoying is when things work exactly as they should for a long time, when suddenly something breaks it (be it an input change, a firmware update, or for seemingly no reason at all).

From what I've read, CEC is not regulated like, say, HDMI. So manufacturers are allowed to implement it any way they see fit, regardless of potential hardware conflicts. Heck, even the nomenclature isn't standardized among the numerous manufacturers whose products employ some form of CEC.

That is true, there is an option to select which devices respond to the signal.

Which also doesn't always work as intended.

Yeah, I'm thinking of when I aim at shutting off one device, but it switches off something else or switches on something else. I just decide to shut it all off.

Having the AV receiver turn on with the TV is nice. I also control the AVR volume with my player remote so that I don't always have to keep the AVR remote at my side too. The player lets me customize CEC.
