Netflix‘s has greenlit a doc series based on Black Hawk Down, Ridley Scott‘s 2001 hit blockbuster. Watch the trailer above.

Surviving Black Hawk Down comes from Scott’s RSA Films and will tell the real story of the horror and heroism behind the events that inspired his movie. It will blend raw, immersive storytelling with first-person interviews from both sides of The Battle of Mogadishu.

Black Hawk Down came out in 2001, winning two Oscars.

Starring Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana, the pic followed the journey of the U.S. sending special forces into Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population. The group used Black Hawk helicopters to lower the soldiers onto the ground.

Netflix’s doc series will launch February 10 and is its latest in the premium docs space. It will air across three parts.

Such a bizarre way of putting it, like they don't realise the movie was based on an actual event...

The History Channel doc & other extras on the 2004 3-disc DVD felt pretty definitive at the time. Curious to see what this can add 21 years later.

I'd actually like to get the lowdown on what happened bts of the movie. I think I remember hearing there was a lot of drama between some of the actors and Ridley, who they felt was gutting some of the more socio-political aspects of the film.

In his adaptation of Mark Bowden’s 1999 book Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, Scott took the testimonials of a vast number of US troops who lived through the battle and compressed them into a storyline suited for the length of a cinematic release.

Now, the new docuseries Surviving Black Hawk Down turns the camera on the actual soldiers — and the Somali people — who survived the Battle of Mogadishu, allowing them to tell audiences exactly what happened in their own words. Netflix recently released Surviving Black Hawk Down, a three-part docuseries about the true story of the Battle of Mogadishu, which was depicted in Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning 2002 film Black Hawk Down.

The movie featured a starry cast — Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, Orlando Bloom, and many more — in a gritty, chaotic portrait of urban warfare that impressed audiences and critics alike. "Black Hawk Down is driven by scenes of gripping, unflinching battle, touched by the director’s talent for communicating through the colors he chooses, even in the spray of mud on a wounded man’s face," reads Entertainment Weekly's review.
