United Kingdom Magic Cop (88 Asia)

Passed '15' by the BBFC with cuts.

https://www.bbfc.co.uk/release/magic...jpwwc0yotiwmtc

The cuts are to the scene where the cat is strung up.

Same as the old VHS versions (which were 'PG').

The cat appears to be alive as the scene ends, though it's not supposed to be. Regardless, the way it's treated is cruel and I'm not sorry to see some footage go.

I presume the region A edition will be uncut?

According to the BBFC one of the reasons for the upgrade was use of the word "motherf**ker" but that wasn't in my script.

There were three f**ks in mine, which would normally be a '12'.

Not sure if someone's changed it or not.

Amazon UK list the UK release as region A + B so maybe it will be like some of Arrow's releases, playing uncut on region A machines.
I'll stick with the UK release anyway. Sounds like the stuff they cut would be something that would enrage me to see anyway.

Shame it's been cut, but I've never seen the film before so will know no better upon my first viewing.

I know we don't want to get into the age old cuts/censorship debates again, but I personally have no real problem if unsavory animal cruelty stuff is given the chop, especially if it features our feline friends.

While I don't approve of the cruelty. It's there and it is what it is.

One would hope we don't do stuff like this so flippantly. At least here in the US. Woo did some stupid stuff on Red Cliff, not sure why he thought it was worth it.

Animals are abused and murdered every day. The difference is, this was seen on film.

On Facebook, a user asked "Is it true that this is cut???" to which 88 replied "not in region A".

Thanks for passing along the confirmation! I'm curious how the cut affects the alternate version that's included on the disc. I'm guessing 88 didn't do alternate branching for it, meaning it's presumably cut or uncut for everyone (assuming it had the scene in the first place).

Thanks. Will get the UK release then. I wonder if the Taiwanese version is cut & if so is UNCUT when set to Region A.

Watched Magic Cop last night and really enjoyed it. This is a perfect film to put on after a long rough day. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fun. It has a very similar feel to most Jackie Chan films of the era. Some series moments, some violence, as well as a bit of comedy to make things fun.

As reported the UK cut of the film is cut due to a very unhappy floating cat, but the scene is in the US version. It's pretty obvious the cat didn't enjoy the experience of being "held" in the air and it's fighting it. This is no movie business cat, so if you don't like seeing animals being forced to do things, this scene isn't for you and enjoy the UK release. The scene in question is when the Sorceress first shows off her powers.

Still, this was a solid release and film. My expectations were neutral going in, and by the end I really enjoyed this one. So excited about all the HK films coming out.

Thanks for confirming. As I mentioned earlier, I am curious if the scene is in the extended cut. It should be ~46 minutes in. The sorceress also chokes the cat before making it levitate. I can't remember if that was in the HK cut.

Received my copy today. I like that the case is the slimline one. Any non two-disc releases should come like this in future. Makes for a fraction more shelf space

Is this the first slim case 88 has done in the UK? Was not what I expected to see when opening my parcel this morning. Still prefer the 14mm cases.
