Default Amazing movies with horrible endings that ruined it?

The worst thing movie-wise is watching an amazing movie that is close to perfect in every way... and then it gets ruined by a horrible ending. Which movies can you think of where this description fits?

On the top of my head, it's the movie "Unthinkable" with Samuel L Jackson. It was so intense and well made, but simply because of the ending it became a total failure of a movie. The whole thing was ruined.

Speaking of sunshine, ex machina had some of the same issues. The ending went off the rails, and characters stepped put of their roles, I think if Isaac wasn't so damn good I would have liked it less.

I saw it, and I have no idea what you're talking about. The ending of Ex Machina was perfect

I haven't seen Ex Machina so can't comment.

WTF twists are fine if they improve things - see From Dusk Til Dawn. Sunshine, didn't work for me.

I love Minority Report so very much but I always turn off the movie when
[Show spoiler]Cruise gets caught and put in the prison. I hate all that comes after it.

Not really. I didn't buy him
[Show spoiler]not having a fail safe to stop her. Why didn't she just attack him when he visited her and taken his keycard? Why would he not have a quick way to shut her off if he knew what she is capable of? Him being outsmarted by his employee wasn't very believable either. It wasn't perfect, and the twists were just too predictable. The uncomfortable strained and well acted relationship between the two male leads though really makes up for the flaws fortunately .

...as I thought "Unthinkable" was brilliant from start to finish, I wonder if you'd care to elaborate and perhaps explain why (in your opinion), the ending supposedly ruined the film to such an extent, so as to render the entire thing a "failure of a movie".

[Show spoiler]The whole point of the end of the Babadook was that they were going on as normal but the Babadook (her depression/dark side) would never really be gone, she'd just have to keep it under control.

[Show spoiler]They're lego, it makes sense that it's an actual lego set.

Anyway, for me, not ruined exactly because I think it's an awesome movie but the way the prestige ended, it kind of has slightly too much confirming one solution to the mystery, whereas I think it works MUCH better if it leaves open the possibility that it's a red herring, in terms of how it fits with the themes and that dialogue/narration near the end.

I was pretty unhappy with the ending to Sixth Sense, not because it was particularly bad, but because it pretty much made the movie pointless to rewatch.

The Mist.

I have never had such a hatred for the ending of a movie as I do with that one. I'm getting angry now just thinking about it. One of my favorite Stephen King stories though.

I wouldn't call it "ruined" but Howard Hawk's Red River is one of the greatest western films ever made ... until it gets to the ridiculous ending. After the entire movie slowly builds to an inevitable showdown and fight to the death between John Wayne & Montgomery Clift, a woman that shows up 2/3 through the film is able to
[Show spoiler]give the guys a quick lecture and talk them out of their foolishness.
Perhaps the worst ending ever to an otherwise truly great film.

No, he actually means Unthinkable.

The "wife" starred in a much better movie the same year...

Yeah, I've mentioned that one myself. Not because it's different from the book, but because it's so absurdly over-the-top bleak that it actually becomes unintentionally comical. It's the ultimate "doh!" moment.
