Default The Films of Tinto Brass HC Book + All Ladies Do it/Frivolous Lola 4K UHDs Indiegogo

Cult Epics have launched an Indiegogo for a hardcover book celebrating the films of Tinto Brass PLUS 4K UHDs of All Ladies Do it and Frivolous Lola.

Quote:
Hello, this is Nico B of Cult Epics. I am very excited to announce our plans to release a fully illustrated coffee-table book on Tinto Brass and his films, whom I have been honored to meet and collaborate with and to release many of his films through my company. We need your help to print and publish this book which has been 20 years in the making, originally to be published by Fabpress, but since 2016 we have started self-publishing books. Meanwhile, the book has been written and re-written for a fascinating story to be told. If anyone of you ordered the Cult Epics Guide book or the SYLVIA KRISTEL book, you know what to expect in design and volume.

Tinto Brass' (1933) long career includes 30 films. The Italian director is best known for the soft adult films he shot in the 1970s and 1980s, his most famous being Salon Kitty (1976), The Key (1983) with Stefania Sandrelli, and the notorious Caligula (1979) which film producer Bob Guccioni, founder of Penthouse, took away from Brass and edited himself. This homage to his fascinating career includes his earliest anarchistic, subversive and experimental and arthouse films like Who Works is Lost (1963), the pop-art western Yankee (1966), the giallo Deadly Sweet (1967), the experimental films Attraction (1968), and The Howl (1969), and rarely-seen Dropout (1971) and Vacation (1971) with Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave, to the decidedly derrière-obsessed fetishism of his later work including Paprika, All Ladies Do It, and The Voyeur. The Films of Tinto Brass is a film-by-film guide to one of the most interesting and uncompromising Italian directors, including a biography, in a fully illustrated coffee-table book edited by Nico B.

Together with the book we have licensed the rights of two erotic classics by Brass, which are scheduled to transfer and encode in 4K UHD with HDR as a world premiere. Imagine Tinto BrASS' erotic films UNCUT in 4K UHD. We are pre-offering these on IGG in exclusive packaging with limited edition slipcases and new bonus features to get the best editions out there possible. We need your support!

Ordered! Hoping for some good stretch goals.

I wonder if the book with contain nudity (how could a Tinto Brass book not?), like the Pulse Brigitte Lahaie book, but the description/pictures make it seem like it might not.

"All Ladies Do It" and "Frivolous Lola" are pretty good Brass films. I hope "The Key"( currently my favorite Brass movie) and "The Voyeur" are next up for their 4k UHD line.

"Pretty good"? LOL. I think you just sandbagged a couple of epic Brass films.

We also need Paprika, PO Box, Monamour, Private/Fallo, Black Angel/Senso 45, and Cheeky/Trasgredire.

I really hope they fix the poor framing/cropping (of the Arrow and CE releases) at the very least. They could do wonders with the Brass films on 4K

Ouch, $60 usd to ship the book and movies set to Canada, but $20 to ship to the UK? Maybe there is a UK distribution, but shipping to Qatar is only a couple bucks more than Canada. Hopefully these become available through other means/channels (I get the book most likely will not).

"Black Angel" is excellent. I like it as much as "Salon Kitty".

Their Sylvia Kristel book from last year is available through Amazon.ca and Indigo even though it is quite expensive. Hopefully it will be the case with this book too. The 4K discs will definitely get a general release. Only the slipcovers are exclusive to the Indiegogo campaign.

I was also going to get the book + 4K perk until I saw the shipping cost. I guess the book must be too heavy to ship with USPS/Canada Post so they must ship it with a company like UPS or Fedex, which means that on top of that there will be taxes and customs fees.

I hesitated on this, because of what happened when I backed the Sylvia Kristel campaign, but eventually I realized, even if I don't really need the book, these are exactly the kinds of films I want to own on 4K UHD, so I changed my mind and backed the Early Bird book and movies set for $119 + $10 shipping. I didn't see it earlier, but the page now says that all the items are estimated to ship in December 2023, which is a bit longer than I would have expected, unless they are only just now starting work on everything. Having said that, I believe there were unforseen delays with the Sylvia Kristel campaign, so maybe Cult Epics are hedging their bets.

Anyway, I also didn't see this section of the campaign page earlier, but maybe I just missed it (EDIT: I forgot to mention that I added the bits in red):

Quote:
PERKS

1. THE FILMS OF TINTO BRASS HARDCOVER BOOK Signed by Nico B Regular book retail price $69.95 [Perk price: $49 (Early Bird), $59]

2. TINTO BRASS 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SET WITH ALL LADIES DO IT & FRIVOLOUS LOLA Regular 2x 4K UHD + Blu-ray set retail price $99.95 [Perk price: $79 (no Early Bird price), although the campaign page says the slipcovers are "Exclusive", it doesn't actually say they will only be for the campaign, but rather that there will be 500 copies of each slipcover]

3. THE FILMS OF TINTO BRASS HARDCOVER BOOK Signed by Nico B & TINTO BRASS 4K UHD BLU-RAY SET WITH ALL LADIES DO IT & FRIVOLOUS LOLA Regular book and 2x 4K UHD + Blu-ray set retail price $169.90 [Perk price: $119 (Early Bird), $139]

EXCLUSIVES & BENEFITS OF YOUR PLEDGE

- Deluxe Hardcover edition signed by Nico B

- A Name (yours or a friend) in the Acknowledgments in the Book

- Packaging: 4K UHD + Blu-ray set include Exclusive Slipcases, 500 made of each

- You will receive the Book and 4K UHD + Blu-ray set before any official release date at a discounted price

- Once we receive our Goal, we will be offering new benefits and exclusives with stretch Goals
So crucially, it looks like if you back the Early Bird book and movies set, you save $50, possibly including tax, but minus shipping ($10 in the US) if you could find a way to get the movies shipped free. When the movies go on sale at retail, they will probably start at at least $39.95 each, which means at least about $80 to get both. On Amazon, this may drop a bit, but I'd guess it will be difficult to pay less than $50 for both for a while. So by that weird logic, I'm only sacrificing about $30 extra money, particularly assuming that I enjoy the book. I'll be honest and say that I haven't looked at my Kristel book yet and I actually don't know where it is right now, but with the Brass book I will make a genuine effort to read it when I receive it.

As far as the perks, this time I'm lowering my expectations and assuming that nothing will actually be exclusive to the campaign. It will be nice to be in the acknowledgement section of the book, but otherwise, I don't expect anything special from backing this campaign other than to support Cult Epics in releasing the films I want.

I'm excited to get Tinto Brass films on 4K UHD!

I am just trying to figure out why 8 people picked the bottom campaign when the one above it is the same items & cheaper with 16 left, am I missing something?

I backed it. Not crazy about All Ladies Do It but wanted Lola. Almost went with just the book but figured I could maybe trade All Ladies Do It.

I was confused too. Up to 11 now. The only thing I can think of is that they just scrolled down and picked the most expensive package thinking it had the most stuff included (without actually looking at the description of both). Unfortunate way to throw away $20 lol.
