I'm surprised the November man isn't available for pre order yet. That one has been out since Wednesday.

I just got a message from our Slovak/ Czech distributor that they are planning to release a Steelbook- wondering if it will be the same as German one...

Watched this tonight, it was pretty good. It's a found footage film so it won't be for everyone. I thought the female lead was pretty convincing.

I just ordered this due to recommendations from two coworkers. I really don't like the lost footage style... for $5 I am hoping it's worth the gamble on a blind buy.

Decent movie that had a few unique things going for it to help it stand out a little bit more from other found footage films, but otherwise it was kind of forgettable, it could have been so much scarier with the help of the catacombs as a setting but it wasn't meant to be.

Some parts of this film plain don't make sense either.

The chick was annoying as hell. What a b*tch. I liked the nods to Dante's Divine Comedy (and especially his descent into Hell), but it's not a very good movie. The best thing about it is the poster/cover.

I loved this movie. Some real eerie imagery towards the end, and solid performances throughout.

Me too. Particularly the nods to Dante, as mentioned above. I found it quite effective.

Include me in the group that enjoyed this... way more than expected (possibly deserved?)

I thought the "found footage" camera technique worked well with this one and wasn't distracting. If anything I think it helped portray the claustrophobic feel of the underground catacombs.

Could it have been better? Sure. Were parts of the storyline/characters a little ridiculous? Sure. But it was an enjoyable watch that after a little more time I can definitely see myself revisiting.

Were you able to make sense of certain things that appeared to be nonsensical?

I think this film is somewhat underrated. I thought it's one of the better found footage films out there, especially from a major studio. The underground Paris catacombs make for a great creepy atmosphere. I only saw it once, so I can't recall everything, but I remember thinking the ending could have been so much darker had they ended up
[Show spoiler] in world with demons unleashed when they escaped through the manhole
. Would have liked to see that as an alternate ending at least.

I'm not a big fan of the found footage genre overall. For example, most of the Paranormal Activity films bore me. But on this, I agree that it's one of the better found footage films and is one that I don't mind watching. It helps that the setting is interesting to me; if I ever make a trip to Paris, I'd love to do a tour of the catacombs.

If I remember correctly, the entrance they use into the catacombs is an actual entrance that urban explorers use, no matter how much the authorities try and block it, so that's pretty neat. It's not one of the "official" entrances that tour groups use.

I actually liked how this one ended, they didn't
[Show spoiler]do the cliche where everyone dies right at the end or get pulled back in. The Pyramid did that move and it's kind of annoying. Heck, there were even two survivors in As Above, So Below, when if anything I would have only expected only the "final girl", so it's actually a true surprise. The guy they chose to live also kind of went against the grain since he wasn't the "main" guy either.

There's an Australian film that's somewhat similar, although not as good, called The Tunnel. I'd give it a look if you can. Although the only reason I have it is because years ago they were giving out the blu-ray for free, all I had to do was pay for shipping, which from Australia still came out to $7 or so.

That release is long, long out of print. Luckily, Umbrella released a new edition in early 2023.

I liked both films but The Tunnel definitely had a longer lasting impact on me. Part of the reason may have been how I discovered it, recommended it, and then ultimately came to own a copy of the Blu Ray you mentioned above though as the path of discovery to ownership was much more fun/interesting than my experience of As Above So Below which was a simple purchased used online story.

New Scream Factory Collector's Edition coming in October. Looks to have new interview with the co-writer/director, as well as with the producer.
