A Minecraft Movie 2 (TBA)

A post-credit scene in the first movie is key to where Minecraft could go in the next installment, according to director Jared Hess:

Alex was added to the game in 2014 to act as Steve's counterpart and, according to Hess, is a sign of things potentially to come.

"[The world of Minecraft is] endless," He told GameSpot. "I mean, there's so many biomes, so many crazy, amazing characters and creatures we haven't even touched on. And, you know, Alex [is] one of the massively iconic characters, right on equal ground with Steve. You can't fit everything in one movie, so you've got to kind of parse it out thinking ahead. But if this one does well, man we're excited to jump back in."

A senior director of Minecraft entertainment, also weighs in on the future of the Minecraft franchise:

Torfi Frans Olafsson, senior director of Minecraft entertainment and online, echoed that sentiment, adding, "In all seriousness, not only do we have other dimensions, other mobs, but also other ways of playing Minecraft, because Minecraft is played in so many ways, by so many people. So the opportunities are really, really endless."

It's worth noting that while we see Alex's trademark red hair in the scene, her face is never shown. So while there are certainly plans for the character, she seemingly has not been cast at this point.

So a sequel hasn’t even been announced, and yet once again you just had to immediately start a thread about a sequel based on nothing more than speculative comments about “endless possibilities” …

because God forbid anybody besides you starts a thread in this forum?

Anyway, I predict the sequel for this will be called Another Minecraft Movie

Jared Hess talks about the sequel

They aren’t going to let you off so easy with the Minecraft sequel, not when the first put up such big numbers. Take me through that process, and your desire to be part of it?

Hess: Oh, man. Well, it would be so much fun. We had so much fun making this movie, and it’s such an expansive world in the game, and there were so many things that we didn’t tap into that we wanted to. I would have a blast doing the sequel, and it seems like there’s already talk about it happening, so I’m super excited. It’ll be so much fun to go back into the world. The fans are just having such a good time. We teased it in the end credits and the fans seem to be going wild for it.

Who’s the new character driving the next Minecraft?

HESS: The character we teased is Alex, the other massively critical character in Minecraft. It’s Steve (Jack Black) and Alex, and so that’s the one that we will be bringing to the table without a doubt.

No reason it shouldn't just be called Another Minecraft Movie, unless there is a play on words based on the game's lore that would work better.

I think week 2 and 3 will determine if a Minecraft sequel would happen, as sometimes the opening week has the majority of those planning to see a movie, and then week 2, 50% cut in attendance or more.

I hope this does well enough for Hess and the crew/cast, as it was a generally fun movie and entertaining. I'd buy it on blu ray eventually when it goes on sale for 9.99.
