I've been waiting a long time for this. I thought when the (decent but inferior) remake came out it might be released but that didn't happen.

Fantastic! I watched the original film on Netflix the same day I saw the remake in theaters back in 2014, and it's a superb movie (the remake is very good as well, but the original is better). Looking forward to this, especially that sweet 70s artwork on the slip.

Miss Imprint if you’re reading this please remove “James Caan in” from the slipcover. It’s misplaced and awkwardly leads into the lengthy tagline instead of the title. Thanks x

Pre-ordered with a 10% coupon at Deep Discount, so it came to about $30 and change. Looking forward to it.

I received my copy yesterday from Import CDs and I watched it last night. I am only a small collector and I am NOT an expert on PQ.

As you would expect for a BD, there is a big improvement in sharpness and detail as compared to the ancient DVD I have. The bad news is there is a lot of speckling. A lot. Obviously, it is most visible during the darker scenes. Unfortunately, it is most distracting during the Vic Tayback scene, which is a pivotal scene in the film.

As a small collector I am always happy to upgrade a DVD and The Gambler is one of my favorite performances by James Caan. For me, in his peak leading man era (post The Godfather through, let's say, Misery in 1990) his two best roles were in this and, of course, Thief.

I'll take print damage over egregious DNR any day of the week.

Got my copy today. Slip is mostly immaculate, except for a tiny dimple between the words "they" and "break" on the back cover. Looking forward to watching it.

Watched it today, and while the print utilized has an awful lot of speckling and other minor damage, the overall clarity of the image makes it a worthy HD upgrade. Watched most of the extras (the interview with the assistant film editor is an ACTUAL, IN-PERSON INTERVIEW, and not some shoddy Zoom call or montage of film clips with a voiceover narration ), and overall I'm thrilled with the presentation and being able to add this awesome slice of 70s cinema to my collection.

Also ordered the steelbook release of the solid 2014 remake, which is under $10 on Amazon right now for those who want to check it out.

Just watched it and thumbs up from me. Had only seen the remake before and i hated it without even having the original to compare against. But this was the business. Caan is fantastic. Also early cameo appearances from James Woods as a weasel bank clerk and M Emmet Walsh. Blu ray pq was good retaining the film like feel without any 'enhancing'. Audio balance was fine at 2.0. It's breaking my finances but hope Viavision keep them coming.

Watched this last night on The Criterion Channel, and I loved it. I had been thinking about blind buying this disc, but the cost on a blind buy gives me pause. I definitely want to add this to the collection, but I'm kind of hoping it gets a stateside release.

blowitoutahere on ebay has consistently had some of the best prices I've seen for Imprint titles shipped to the U.S., and currently has a "buy 2 get 15% off" deal as well. Priced at $29.00.
