So glad it looks like they reused the Link's Awakening engine. Hopefully it runs a bit better.

I like the art style, was hoping for a modernization of the Oracle games with it but I’ll definitely take a wholly new game instead.

I presume Grezzo are the developers; didn’t Link’s Awakening launch September as well?

I've watched the video several times and it doesn't appear to look or run better. Feels like something they rushed through development so they'd have a new Zelda game on the Switch for this holiday season.

Don't care for the cutesy art style. Didn't want the first Zelda-protag game to be about finding Link in some reverse bullshit of the damsel in distress, hoped it would just be HER adventure, without Link, Tails Adventure style. Probably remove Ganon as well. I did want her play style to be less direct, meaning about wisdom rather than courage, but that it's apparently nothing but summoning prior objects is a letdown.

I would've preferred it to have been something that didn't look like a mobile game. And you watch, Nintendo will charge 60 bucks for this damn thing. I'm so sick of Nintendo getting away with charging premium prices for indy level work that couldve been made in Dreams or Roblox! And NOBODY in the media calls them out for it! But no, we all have to sit here and pretend like Nintendo is doing yeoman's work when in reality, with very few exceptions, the production value of most of their games is that of a mid level indie developer, without the indie level prices. I'd say about 20% of Nintendo's 1st party games are legitimate, full production, modern standard video games and the other 80% are glorified mobile games being sold for 50 and 60 bucks. Yet most everybody seems totally cool with it?? I don't get it. It must be some kind of mass hypnosis.

Well Nintendo has added several hundred employees recently while the rest of the industry is tossing developers out like it’s the new fad so their business practices sure seem to be benefiting their employees…

Over 400 in the last fiscal year. They're doing something right.

Maybe it's........not chasing diminishing visual returns by keeping budgets and graphics modest so you can actually make a profit on everything. Steels been triggered since the BotW media coverage. He can't let it go.

I'd be fine with that if Nintendo charged accordingly. But they want to act like their games have the same big budget production as other studios, which they don't, and justify charging big budget prices for them, which they cant. That's my issue with it Dyne. If Nintendo wants to keep making these filler games with craptastic graphic design, fine. But don't insult my intelligence by trying to convince me they're worth the same price as other big budget games that run circles around them!

And why should I care about who gets hired and fired in the gaming industry?? I'm a gamer, not a Nintendo stock holder! What does that have to do with anything we're talking about??

So Nintendo (in your mind) should charge $60-70 only if their graphics are also big budget? I thought GAMEPLAY WAS ALWAYS KING!

The games industry has shed 20,000 jobs in the last 12-18 months. To think that won’t have any impact on you as a gamer is incredibly short sighted. Projects will take longer, become more homogenized and probably continue to trend to the live service/micro transaction garbage.

Nintendo is running the only sustainable business model of the Big Three right now with their lower budgets and refusing to chase the photorealism dream that will never be achieved. I’ll take a game with the art direction of Xenonlade 3 or Breath of the Wild over another drab and grey world pallet shooter that many other developers love to churn out.

I hope they start chasing frame rates.

This. I’d love to see every game target a 60FPS mode from the beginning of development. On PS5 I have chosen 60FPS every single time its an option even when the visual downgrades are apparent compared to the 30FPS mode.

Switch 2 should be powerful enough that even a 60FPS mode on their games will look better than Switch games that ran at 30. I’d even consider picking up multi-platform releases on it if they look respectable compared to PS5.

Diesel, I can't pretend to be impressed with Nintendo's output just because they've found a way to make it economically feasible. Those two things are mutually exclusive. I just find it so strange that any gamer would say "yeah I'll take a less impressive game if it means the devs can keep their jobs". As consumers, it's not your job to make concessions for something like that. The onus is on the publisher to find a way to make it work. Putting out budget level games and charging premium prices isn't something we should be championing. That's such backwards logic to me.

I'm not expecting photorealism. But I want to see more ambition. Nintendo is so goddamn conservative with their game development.
