United Kingdom RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop (December 2023)

Surprised there's no thread for this it looks to be the film documentary of the year.

Our US distributor Screambox have now notified us that the RoboDoc US Blu-ray will remain a one-disc set, NOT a two-disc set as initially planned.
Screambox have opted for the set to be a single disc containing 4 of the 9 Special Features we supplied.
The plan was for all 9 Special Features to be included in the set (Hence the cover art stating all 9 Special Features)
This is also the case for the US Walmart Steelbook, which Screambox also manufactured. The Steelbook contains the same 4 Special features.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Meet the Makers
- Major Firepower
- Robo Cast Quotes
- Trailer
If you have any more questions about the US Blu-ray release, please direct them to Screambox who handle the Blu-ray production, manufacturing, listings and sales.

 REGION B
The UK Blu-ray will be a two-disc set, as planned. It will contain all 9 Special Features (over 60 minutes) + limited edition art cards and poster. This will be released on Dec 18th.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Meet the Makers
- Major Firepower
- Robo Cast Quotes
- Trailer
- Roboteam Assemble
- Call to Action
- Art of the Steel
- Part Man, Part Machine, All Video Game
- Guns! Guns! Guns!
Thank you for your cooperation.
US thread

I see the intended 2 disc US release has had a disc lopped off the release missing out of some extras. I prefer the US artwork but went with the UK months ago so that's turned out good. Hopefully!

Backed this around 7 years ago on Kickstarter However, I'm glad to see it's almost here. Still no word on though whether backers will get the extra bits they did as part of the Kickstarter (I did the VHS style one). Nice to see that backers will get all of the other seasons included covering the other movies, TV shows, comics and games for free.

I've watched the first two episodes of the doc on iTunes and it's great.

Shame to see the US folks have been shafted in the extras department too, but that seems to be more Screambox than the production guys.

I learned my lesson with this lot when they did the Pennywise/IT documentary.

Took 6 years, the length of the final product kept getting smaller and smaller, and despite many promises that backers would get to see it before it ever hit streaming we were still waiting months afterwards. In the end I think we got copies around the same time as retail.

Things seemed to be going ok until they signed a deal with ScreamBox for distribution in the US, then they started saying that the terms of that deal prevented them from issuing copies to backers first.

It was just one excuse after another with ScreamBox painted as the bad guys, yet it was Cult Screenings who signed up to that deal and those terms.

My advice for anyone thinking of backing them would be to just wait for retail versions, which is exactly what I've done for RoboDoc. It's not worth the hassle.

I ended up backing this, Pennywise and the Police Academy doc. Ultimately I don't care how long I have to wait as long as I get them, but I won't be in a rush to back any more from Cult Screenings; like you CouncilSpectre I'll just wait for the retail versions going forward.

I wonder what that will tackle next as I assume the remaining RoboDoc's are going to take up loads of their time now and they still haven't finished the Police Academy documentary

I mean don't get me wrong, what you eventually get on screen is pretty great. It's just the whole experience around getting the actual discs in hand is so frustrating, and I really dislike how disingenuous they are in their communications. It's one thing if your expectations are managed, but the constant goalpost-moving and outright fibs....Nope, never again.

I really hope they finish off the Police Academy doc. I didn't back it at the time but I'd definitely pick up the retail release. Same with the additional RoboDoc stuff. As I said, the quality of the actual discs and what's on them is pretty good, I just don't want the baggage that comes with backing them directly.

Basically you all backed them with an interest free loan into a proper corporate deal, lol, absolute scumbags. In crypto this is normal.

Whait a second. So what we get in this two disc set is not the complete documentary, but there are still parts missing that are not yet produced/finished?

I did not back the original campaign for Robodoc, but I did back Pennywise and was also a bit disappointed when it was cut down to two hours and missed out a lot of stuff that would have made the doc much more informing and entertaining (as the bonus material shows).

It is the complete documentary for Robocop, 4 episodes with a run time of just under 5 hours.

The sequels docs being produced will be focusing on the other movies, and will be available to buy/stream when released, or if you originally backed on Kickstarter they are included for free

Yeah I backed Pennywise too and remember them saying that there would be a special backers screening before it went live on Screambox and then it went quite so i asked them a week before it went live on Screambox
and they said they had to do a last minute re-edit for legal and the backers screening was still coming.

......it never happened and then the backers were the last ones to see it. I remember people who didn't back it buying physical copy's before the backers even got them.

I was disappointed with Pennywise when it went from being a four hour doc to two hours with only one hour of bonus features. It was originally advertised as having hours of extra's. I asked them about it and they said they shot 28 hours of interviews so they had plenty of stuff they could have included on the blu ray. I asked them if we would ever see a four hour cut and they said no.

There's no doubt when they joined with Screambox that they were blinded by the money being offered them and signed away a hell of alot of rights and control to their documentary's. It wouldn't surprise me if Screambox asked them to cut the length of the doc down for Pennywise.

They should stipulate in their contract with the distributors that the backers get the first copys before it goes on sale to the general public.

I never bother backing these crowdfunded documentaries. Just seems like a headache and they almost always screw over the backers.

I see the US distributor has put the US missing stuff on Vimeo:

Hello,

We appreciate your enthusiasm and support for the RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop Collector’s Edition Blu-ray. We are writing to inform you of a discrepancy in the online metadata regarding the disc count for the collector's edition.

We want to clarify that the intended configuration was always a single disc – containing all four episodes and the bonus features listed below. When it came time to manufacture, all of the previously mentioned items fit on 1 BD-50.

The bonus features we have prepared for you are as follows:

Meet the Makers
Robo Cast Quotes
Major Firepower - The Weapons of RoboCop
Trailer

We understand the importance of accurate information, and we apologize for any confusion caused by the online metadata error.

Since the international version contains additional bonus features, we are hosting them here for your viewing enjoyment:

The UK disc is the one to get according to the review -

"The Region B-locked UK release -- available for pre-order now and shipping on December 18th -- will reportedly be the intended 2-disc edition with all special features included on said discs."

It's a great doc, but given how much of a cluster**** the US release has been, it's far from 'definitive'. Wait for the UK release, which will hopefully be complete.

I'll be going with the UK for sure, I meant the documentary was the definitive look a RoboCop.

I got it cheap when Amazon were doing that £5.00 off promo.
