Marianna Brennand is on a very hot streak these days, being presented with the Cannes 2025 Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award at the renown film festival, and with the domestic debut of her latest film, Manas.
She also won the 2024 Venice Days Director’s Prize for Manas (I had a chance to meet Marianna at a recent advance screening of her movie, and she couldn't be lovelier) ![]() Now Marianna tells Deadline she's working on a couple of projects, both of which will become feature films. One is an adaptation of a contemporary Brazilian book written by a female author who, for now, she declines to name. The second film project will be based on research she’s made on psychological violence against women. Brennand says she’ll be very busy for “as long as we keep suffering in having to fight for our existence.” There is little question Marianna is quickly becoming one of the most remarkable Brazilian directors of her generation. |
