it was mentioned on twitter that the director interview cannot be included in the bd release due to licensor's request. acquire new material yes, since when was that a rule that you cannot include an extras segment from a previous release? i was looking forward to get rid of my 2001 dvd

I've actually watched the Discotek DVDs of both of these in the last few months. If this genre (dark late 80's fantasy/horror anime) interests you, you'll be very pleased. Of the two, Wicked City is slightly better but they're both great.

I'll definitely be upgrading to the blu-ray for both.

"Midnight Eye Goku is an extremely enjoyable and gloriously over the top romp set in a noir inspired future Tokyo. Featuring gorgeous 80's animation, disparate elements from the Journey to the West myth, and even a robotic woman with handlebars who shoots a laser from her mouth, fans of 80's anime and anime history in general are sure to be pleased.

Video quality is very good considering the age of the material and I had no problems with the Japanese audio or English subtitles. The inclusion of both OVA episodes makes this set a bargain as well, as they are both the length of some shorter anime films.

Highly recommended and, if you like this, be sure to get Wicked City as well."

I watched a couple of trailers for Midnight Eye Goku just now and it looks very interesting indeed. The animation looks very appealing. Hopefully it will find its way on Blu-ray also.

Yoshiaki Kawajiri is awesome! Wicked City is one of my favorites. Also check out Demon City Shinjuku, Goku: Midnight Eye, Ninja Scroll, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

I knew that they had released it on DVD, but had no idea they had plans to release it on Blu-ray. I'm surprised it wasn't announced a few months ago when they mentioned all of the titles they were going to release in 2020.

I just finished watching this (I'd previously only watched the DVD). I can't imagine it looking any better given its age. The subs were well timed and the Japanese 2.0 mix was great.

Incidentally, I sampled the english 5.1 dub briefly as well and it seemed very well done. Diskotek did a great job on this one.

Hopefully they will put out the live action adaptation through the Nihon Nights sublabel.
