I used to absolutely love this as a kid. Slimer was hilarious. It's a bit dated now though.

Love the first 2 seasons, before they started messing with the tone and characters.

Yeah, got bad when it became the Slimer show but i still want the whole series on blu ray.

I did like the episode that explains why Janine's appearance, voice, etc. changed over the course of the series.

Awesome cartoon! I have the original DVD box set Time-Life put out in 2008 that looks like the firehouse. I believe all the subsequent DVD releases by Sony themselves have been incomplete in some way, and that TL release is still the only actual set with every single episode.

There were two releases of the complete collection by Time Life, is there any way to tell the difference from the packaging? the first release used steel books, but it was later repackaged to use keep cases.

Think I was more familiar with the toy line than the actual show. Can't recall much about it other than Slimer getting really popular. Watched maybe a couple episodes not too long ago and wasn't enthralled enough to watch more, but I might give it another chance.

The early episodes can sometimes be pretty dark and spooky for an '80s kids show, with a good sense of dread and eeriness. Death is even mentioned at times, which was pretty unheard of in cartoons back then. I recall at least one episode where the boys find themselves in a particularly dangerous situation, and Egon literally says "We are going to die."

Interesting. I think I recall there being later keep case releases but not in the firehouse box.

Does anyone know what animation studios were used for the show?

I have the Firehouse box and it has clear keep cases, and an "exclusive" bonus disc.
No idea how to tell the difference, tho.

Is the show streaming anywhere? Is it in HD?

I picked up the German blu-ray set a few years ago and started going through it but after a dozen or so episodes I just got a bit bored, have tried to carry on a few times since then but only manage a single episode and feel that is enough.

It was a huge part of my childhood and I think that nostalgia is what made me want to rewatch it but reality is perhaps its best left as a childhood memory.
