[ONE MAP. THREE VILLAINS. WINNER TAKES ALL.

Genre maestro Kim Jee-woon (A Tale of Two Sisters) set his sights on new frontiers and spiced them up with his rollicking kimchi western The Good, the Bad, the Weird. Wrangling three of Korea’s biggest stars, he orchestrated an audacious action epic sweeping across the dusty Manchurian plains.

In the 1930s, three gun-toting Koreans converge on a train with different objectives but after an explosive altercation they leave it with the same goal: track down a map leading to an unfathomable treasure. The ‘Good’ is bounty hunter Park Dowon (Jung Woo-sung, 12.12: The Day), who is chasing down the ‘Bad’, the ruthless bandit Park Chang-yi (Lee Byung-hun, A Bittersweet Life), rumored to be the notorious ‘Finger Cutter’. Meanwhile, wily thief Yoon Tae-goo (Song Kang-ho, Parasite), the ‘Weird’, is on the hunt for anything he can get his hands on. Backs are stabbed, fingers are cut, and many bullets fly as this dangerous trio blast their way through the desert in search of untold riches.

This glorious resurrection of the Manchurian Western was the biggest and most ambitious production ever undertaken in Korea. Presented here in stunning 4K, experience this spicy slice of wild west mayhem as you’ve never seen it before.

According to DVD Compare, yep.

CUTS:
Blu-ray ALL United Kingdom- Arrow Films - Yes - Includes both the International version (129:47) and the Korean version (135:11), both with 5 seconds of cuts by the BBFC. "Cuts were required to remove sight of real animal cruelty, in this instance three cruel horse falls, in line with the requirements of the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937."
I wonder if Arrow would re-author the disc.

Yes, cuts are bad etc, but 5 seconds of cuts, probably in the fast paced, frenetic action scenes wouldn’t be noticeable. Certainly didn’t dampen my enjoyment of the film when I watched the UK 4K release when it came out. I think I tried to spot where those 5 seconds may have been, but never did.

I would hope the BBFC cuts wouldn't be on the US release.

In any case, really fun film. I'll gladly upgrade from the old IFC 2010 BD.

I'm interested, as long as it's uncut, which based on previous Arrow releases, it should be.

Have Arrow released a title in both US and UK where the discs weren't identical?

True Romance. When it was finally released in the US, Arrow re-edited some of the extras because of rights issues.

Yes, there have been one or two films which ran afoul of the BBFC and were uncut in the US, the only issue is that they happened to be released simultaneously in both countries.

I absolutely cannot abide BBFC cuts regardless of the reason, so I'll be waiting to make sure the film is uncut.

As for other discs that are different, The Last Starfighter is different in the UK, with less extras.

My only concern is whether Arrow would spend the time to re-author a new disc for those 5 seconds of censored material when they have one ready to go. It's too bad James Flower isn't on any social media anymore, he's usually pretty quick to respnd about stuff like this.

It would be weird to release deluxe editions of a Korean film in the US and Canada in its two versions, with UK mandated cuts, but we'll see.

Pre-ordered. It'll be nice to have this film on disc. I opted out of the BD years ago because it was 1080i. Also, I prefer the Korean cut to the International cut. So it's great for me that the former is included as well.

DVDCompare has just updated their comparison for the 4K Good, Bad, and Weird, and the US release appears to be uncut.

OVERALL: Blu-ray ALL

The US release for the uncut versions.

Blu-ray ALL America- Arrow Films - No cuts - Includes both the International version and the Korean version.

Didn't Arrow do something once, where the discs were identical, but it was uncut when played on a native US player, and the UK cut when played on a native European player?

Maybe it's the same thing here?

Probably not, because the BBFC frowns upon that sort of thing. I should think it's more likely that Arrow just went back to their master before they made the BBFC cuts and put that on the US disc.

Anyway, this is good news for me and I will pick this up during the next 50% off sale. I've always been curious to see the film.

Arrow's release of Savage Three in the Years of Lead UK box set has black screens for bbfc-friendly cuts although I'm not sure if that was mandated or just an abundance of caution. However it was noted by another forum member that if you play it for a few seconds or more, return to the menu and play it again, the uncut version will play. I'm not sure if that's because the disc has two versions dependent on your region coding. It could be using a hidden subtitle to black out the screen and the instructions are "forgotten" when you stop and replay from the beginning.

Someone who knows where the cuts are, might try this trick on TGTBTW and report back, perhaps.
