Default I don't understand all the vitriolic hatred

I know this is a Blu-Ray forum so I am preparing for the flames...

But I just don't get all the HEATED PASSIONED HATRED for the now dead rival format. People are posting all of these taunting messages like HD-DUD is Hitler or something. I always thought BD was a superior format, but I waited on the sidelines until the WB announcement because (like many) I didn't want to own the library full of Betamax tapes Once I took the BD plunge, I jumped in with both feet and have bought over 30 discs in the last month. And I LOVE it.

So yes, I understand wanting to be on "the right side" and not have your investment be a huge mistake, but the intense personal nature and hatred of the other technology, I just don't get... To quote Dr. Evil "It's a fricken laser..."

Just my $.02. Let the flames begin...

BD is the superior format, unfortunately alot of the supporters are not as superior. Taunting people is just stupid and immature. Now is the time to INVITE the HD-DVD people to join us in BD. Not push them away and piss them off and mock them. I thought everyone wanted the format to grow? Instead they go onto forums and mock HDDVD people, piss them off, and possibly prevent them from buying BD, at least for the time being. Just stupid.

A lot of the hatred stems from bitter and sometimes very personal debates on the other HDM forums. (AVS, High Def Digest)

Other people are just simply crazed fanboys that don't have much of a reason other then it makes them feel good to bash something.

Yeah, ive found most of the hatred comes not from BD users, but from general Sony supporters who "Hate MS, Hate Toshiba, Hate HD-DVD". Of course they are the ones to label people "red ants" when they are just "Sony Ants" themselves. Its like that picture of two retarded kids fighting, where the one retarded kid is calling the other kid a retard. In the end, they are both retards.

There is no hatred on my part. Rather, I feel both relief and happiness.

But I can understand if some folks feel hatred, especially if our insiders feel hatred which I suspect they don't feel hatred at all. They took a ton of abuse online from the supporters of the now dead format. But that is all in the past now and we are reaping the benefits of their hard work and the passion of the early adopters.

A contributory factor for the vitriol is the vitriol that was aimed at the Blu community. That and downright lies, disinformation and invective.

Of course there was also a certain amount of justifiable superiority felt by the Blu community for choosing the superior format. This lead to a certain amount of amusement at the people who would willingly choose an inferior product. That those who chose the inferior product were usually semi literate (look at what they posted on the forums) confirmed this.

I hear you. HD-DVD is really not that bad according to their pq and aq but consumers only need one HD format and most people are more satisfied with blu-ray. You are correct about the ridiculous hatred for the other format (HD DVD). On the brighter side, it's just business competition. Sony and Toshiba are professional companies and they explain their differences in a professional manner and not like children.

It's not hatred of the technology.

It's the hatred for a company trying to pass off inferior quality to the uninformed as if it were superior quality at a lower price. It's the deception tactics the HD DVD camp employed. The Payoffs. The whole idea of duping consumers to make a short buck on shoddy merchandise.

And really, please. Go back and read some of the commentary made by the HD DVD cabal when they still believed the format had a chance. Nothing but fabricated, vitriol-fueled screeds of panic and rage.

As they say in professional sports, "Call it both ways, Ref."

Maybe I should be the last one to speak considering my signature line, but if you really know me and read my threads you know I am not the fan-boy type.

Sure, I was angry for a week when Paramount defected because I bought blu-ray because of Transformers! However, defecting when they did prevented that HD DVD hand me down crap we were getting from Warner. In the end lots of movies were spared this treatment. So, no more grudges, just eager anticipation.

Oh, and blu-ray won because Chuck Norris wanted it to win.

I started the same way you did, no hatred or hard feelings towards the other side. But after countless conversations with uninformed red-ants who can't see past the initial cost of $100 extra for a player is infuriating. They truly though their format was better because the players were cheaper and that somehow 30GB = 50GB. It wears on you after a while.
