USA Scoop (2006) Blu-ray (Kino Studio Classics)

Kino have just announced plans to release Woody Allen's Scoop (2006) on Blu-ray on August 26th! According to the Kino Insider, the licensing window for this one is shorter than their usual releases, so it's best to get this one sooner than later.

Quote:
Scarlett Johansson (Match Point) and Hugh Jackman (X-Men) star in this hilariously twisted tale of murder and mystery by the great Woody Allen (Annie Hall, Vicky Christina Barcelona). Sondra Pransky (Johansson) is an American journalism student visiting friends in London. While watching a stage performance by another American, magician Sid Waterman (Allen), a.k.a. Splendini, Sondra is shocked to find herself able to see and hear the recently departed U.K. journalist Joe Strombel (Ian McShane, John Wick). From beyond, Joe gives her a hot tip, on the identity of the “Tarot Card Killer,” who’s still at-large in London. Sondra immediately starts chasing the big story, enlisting the aid of a very reluctant Sid. Her chase leads right to a handsome British aristocrat, Peter Lyman (Jackman), with whom she falls head-over-heels. Soon, Sondra finds that the romance of her lifetime may very well be the dangerous Scoop for which she’s in hot pursuit.

Product Extras :
Theatrical Trailer
Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
Optional English Subtitle.

This is one of Woody's best and funniest, a lighthearted follow-up to Match Point, which I hope also gets a release here.

I hope this means Match Point and Cassandra's Dream are also on the way.

This and Anything Else (which has his most unhinged performance; so bizarre, but it works) are his most underrated 21st century films

Match Point is with Quiver and Cassandra's Dream is with Lionsgate. Not sure why Quiver hasn't released Match Point.

I'm guessing the rights are going to expire really soon and go back to Woody Allen and then eventually to Quiver.

Anything Else is one of his greatest. I agree, it's very underrated.

Scoop is pretty fun with Scarlett Johansson putting an interesting spin on the classic Woody Allen lead character. I think all three of the films Allen made with Johansson are good even if this is, arguably, the weakest.

I had this on my mind a few days ago.

I never could stand Woody Allen or anything he was ever involved with. This however is a fun flick. A girl I was with at the time it came out wanted to watch it so reluctantly I agreed and was quite surprised. Would pick this up for a decent price down the road.

I'd say so, especially if you're a fan of Woody. I think it's one of his funniest and best comedies.

Wish we could get Anything Else in it’s OAR

Just wish we could get some WA films in 4K UHD, but I will be pre-ordering this.

Annie Hall and Manhattan both had 4K restorations that got a good deal of promotion online a few years back, with trailers and such, but no distributor seems willing or able to release them.

88 Films is releasing Annie Hall in the UK and were denied the 4K scan. Strange that wouldn't be given to them.

Wow, that's bizarre.

Annie Hall was fully owned by United Artists, so now Amazon.

I wonder why they would license the film, but deny the licensee access to a newer, superior video master they must certainly own.

The restoration was done from the negative, with Allen's involvement, but has vanished off the face of the earth since a few 2017 festival screenings:

Yeah, it's strange. This is what 88 said:

The 4K master is not approved for home video apparently. We obviously requested it but were denied access. We also wanted to make a new transfer but again weren’t allowed to.

Thoroughly bizarre. I would have to think the only person who would need to approve the use of the new Annie Hall master for home video would be Allen, I wonder why he participated in the restoration and approved the 2017 theatrical screenings, but is blocking a 4K release.

I had assumed the lack of a UHD release was down to timid boutique labels, it's bonkers that it's presumably because he's the one blocking it.
