Default Should forums who clearly backed an HD DVD agenda be called out and boycotted?

AVS and AVrev are two obvious examples. I'm sure we all have many others. Forums where mod staff protected pro-HD DVD posters and allowed HD DVD FUD to go unchallenged while they punished, banned, or deleted posts from those trying to clear up misinformation and call out HD DVD shills who seemed to be running the show.

Personally, I don't think I'll ever visit AVS again except to monitor the discussion in the projector forum. AVrev is a similar place where the mods would back up LOTUS and all of his false information and discourage other members from challening him.

While at HTF it seems that most of the previously pro HD DVD membership have embraced the idea of a single-HDM format and are moving foward positively, there are still many individuals there and at other places who are now starting to push a "DVD is good enough" and "it doesn't matter since HDM is going to be replaced by downloading" message.

It seems that the format war for these individuals has merely changed categories... it wasn't HD DVD that they loved, it was just Blu-ray Disc that they hated.

What do you guys plan to do? Do you even remember that there used to be other decent forums besided Blu-ray.com?

I care.

Partly because I would ask *why* those forums so brazenly pushed for HD DVD and so openly tried to shut-out those who defended an accurate apprailal of events? Consider the way AVS was a safe harbor for Amir to post any type of FUD while blu-insiders were literally banned.

I suspect that money was involved. And that possibility should bother all of us.

Without a doubt.

HTF, AVS, HDD, DVD-Talk all had clear HD-DVD loyalties. If Bill Hunt is taking crap for being open, these forums deserve to get even less respect for their "hidden" agendas.

I think money was involved with all of the forums I have mentioned. Free movies to review, etc. They are receiving payola in some way, shape or form.

Still, it's up to you. If it's important to you, don't post at those forums. The only way they will take notice is if their membership falls. If you are important to them and they email you, asking to come back, let them know why you left and will return if you see things change.

you don't think there should be some kind of accountability for obviously compromised integrity?

i'm not asking for the nuremburg trials here... but accountability would be nice. just to discourage it from happening again next time.

Accountability? How would you go about this anyways?

You guys are reminding me of myself when employee quits before I get to fire them. I don't get to tell them how I truly feel with a pink slip to rub it in!! LOL

well, how exactly to extract accountability is obviously the question... but do you agree that some kind of accountability for the behavior of certain sites would be nice?

Exactly. As I put it in another thread, their attitude is "Anything but Blu-ray".

There are some hd-dvders who are simply satisfied to convert to BD and then there are others who will never convert to Blu-ray. Those people are lost in their own stubborness.

David,

You should include Home Theater Forum. The moderators were actively pushing HD DVD on that forum - Cees even coming out to admit he signed the "Warner - Save HD DVD" petition. Sure, a lot of times they do it in subtle ways, but clearly they had an agenda. You could just sense their massive disappointment when Warner announced. In addition, it's surprising they still let that DUD boy "big luiga" or whatever his name is make outright stupid FUD remarks almost daily.

Exactly.

If people have such huge principles I think they should boycott all Paramount films then. Don't buy transformers when it comes out. While you're at it avoid Universal films as well.

It's just ridiculous. On one side you have Sony haters and on the other you have Microsoft haters. This doesn't include everyone, obviously.

I think it's more "Sony" they hated instead of "blu-ray" but ends up being about the same I guess. Hopefully they'll come around after a while but so far, the FUD-factor is still high and it doesn't help when you have Toshiba making ridiculous comments as well. Initially, I thought most of these people would be irrelevant now but it looks like it's just changing from blu-ray vs HD DVD to blu-ray vs any other alternative (especially downloads).

A co-worker of mine bought an HD DVD player not long ago and so I gave her a heads-up on what was happening so she could get the movies she wanted before they dry up. At first she was really upset about HD DVD going under but today said she'd just use the HD DVD player for a while and then switch to downloads. What the heck...I guess I can see where that comes from though. A lot of the articles out there make it sound like downloads are just around the corner. Hopefully, people will realize that it is a ways off eventually.

In any case, I hope the forums start returning to normal and not stay divided like it has been. I think I'll probably still get most of my news and info, etc. from here though. I'm really glad the format-war is over and I don't want to start arguing over something else so soon. Things are still kind of snippy out there and this place is somewhat of a safe-haven.
