Default Audyssey with Subwoofer

Hey guys, I got my new Polks (woohoo!) today with the free subwoofer and I'm gonna run the Audyssey on my 705 tomorrow and I want make sure I have the settings on the sub correct before I start (seeing as its my first sub and I'm a newbie with subs). I am using a Y connector (if that matters). Do I want Double Bass or will that harm my speakers? If I understand it correctly I put the phase at zero, the crossover all the way up and the volume half way... correct? It's a PSW10, nothing fancy and it was free so I may as well use it until I can upgrade to something better. As for the speakers, I upgraded my Bose to Polk RTi A3's and a CSi A4. All in cherry and oh, are they sweet looking! Still gotta upgrade my Bose surrounds though, but I'm getting there! Thanks for any input!

I don't know how many positions the Audyssey in the 705 lets you take, but take the maximum number of spots, even if you are the only one that uses the system. And follow the pattern in the manual that best fits your room description. If you don't run it that way, you will not be happy with the results. It's very important to use all possible positions and do them in the order shown in the manual. If you do so you will be very happy with Audyssey.

No matter if Audyssey sets your speakers for "full range", set the crossovers for all speakers to 80hz. This is also important otherwise you will miss some important sound information that will get lost due to the setup. If you set your speakers up to crossover at 80hz, the double bass option will go away, which you don't really want to use anyway.

As far as the sub settings, yes crank the crossover on the sub itself all the way up, or bypass it if possible (would be shown as a position on the dial or a switch on the sub). Set the phase to 0 if the sub is facing the same position as the other speakers. If it isn't, they will be a harder setup involved that Audyssey can't fix. And about half way is good for the volume level of the sub on the woofer itself. But, when Audyssey is all done and you set the crossovers to 80hz (make sure you set those crossovers to 80hz in the 705, are you getting the picture that is important?) I would go in to the speaker level menu and bump the sub up about 5-7db from where Audyssey will set it.

I hope this helps you.
