I don't know if another thread has been started or is fully dedicated to this topic and I apologize if thats the case but I'm really curious about this subject and people's feelings on it....
As I'm sure most Bluray owners know one of HD DVD's touted "featuers" was the whole "combo disc" thing. Personally I NEVER got what was so special about it. And frankly I hated seeing those cases everytime I walked by their section in Best Buy or any other store. It just seems stupid to me and a waste of money. In particular it seemed like it was one specific studio (I don't remember which one) that ALWAYS released its movies on these "combo discs". My question is do you think that it would be a good idea for Bluray to do that? I personally hope they NEVER do that. I know that they've developed a way to do that but I personally hope its not utilized. It just seems like it would be holding back the process of moving from SD to HD. Plus I want to pay money ONLY for HD movies... |

No.
Even a decent number of hardcore HD-DVD supporters hated combos. Good riddance to them. I don't want to see that concept anywhere near Blu. |

Well having had the "pleasure" of the Combo disks I can state first hand that I don't want them on Blu-ray. For one, I like the picture cover over one side of the disk so as silly as it sounds you've not got to squint at the centre circle of the disk to make sure you've got it the right way up.
I don't like combo disks personally, others might which is fair enough.. but not got my vote thats for sure.. |

I am indifferent on the whole situation. I am very happy that alot of my old SD-DVD's were double sided, one side being full screen and the other being wide-screen so it could be a nice feature down the road somehow.

eh...i hate double sided discs...i always have one side that gets all scratched and finger printy...i am one of those guys who always leaves my dvd's out flipped over, picture side down since i am too lazy to put them back in the case...
also, i thought i read in another thread that the bd disc was not able to take a combo? is that why bd has not accepted combo format yet, simply technical issues? ![]() |

I think adoption rates are going to increase a great deal which really makes the combo need moot. The only thing I could fathom needing a combo for is if I'm going to someone's house who only had a DVD player.
At that point I have to ask myself why aren't they coming to my house to watch Blu Ray? |

It really is, and I'm coming 'round to agreement with the folks who are asking for a minimum post count before noobs can start a new thread. There are far too many new members who are unable or unwilling to do a simple search before beginning new threads and the result is that this forum is becoming needlessly cluttered with endlessly redundant threads. Just like this one.
Do some homework. |

I want a VHS/DVD/BD Triple!
Good lord combo discs were the dumbest f*cking thing ever! Pay extra for a format your trying to get away from. Genius. "But my kids can watch it in the mini-van." Great. Your the <1% of consumers that may benefit. Go buy Sponge Bob DVD and give them something they really would enjoy. "But I can watch it upstairs" Good job bonehead. You spent thousands on a home theater only to NOT use it. Let's never utter the word combo disc here EVER again. |

I'm not so sure that the buyers actually wanted the combo format disks... They were forced to buy them that way if they wanted them in HD. And last I checked those disks were more expensive then those released just in HD. Personally I DON'T want them to be released in combo format even if it is an option.
