Why no release in Blu? I'm not sure which studio released it but it doesn't even have an HD copy. Is there one on the way?

It's a Universal film. There's an HD-DVD.

There's no blu-ray release YET because American Gangster was released prior to the announcement and plus everyone was unaware of the early death of HD DVD. Just be patient because it will be on blu very shortly. Most of all, it'll be on blu because Denzel Washington is the main star and one of the best. It shouldn't be long before they announce it for blu

Yes there is an HD version, I have it. And probably 3-4 months before Beowulf and American Gangster come to Blu.

I hope they re-encode it. I remember Bill Hunt mentioning that there was a problem with overcompression with the HD DVD edition.

It's also on the DVD version... one of the worst encode this year so far...

Good, I thought it was just me. I was seriously disappointed by the DVD, but I thought maybe it was just because I've been watching Blu-Rays a lot lately.

theres a hd copy out right now but i think it should be released on bd soon

I wouldn't hold out hopes of any of these HD DVD movies getting the complete works and redone for blu-ray. The smart money is on the same transfer getting put on a blu disc...people will buy it either way, why spend the money to do another transfer?

People need to stop asking question involving when a movie will come out, and IF it will come out....... Blu-ray won. Everything will eventually be out for it. When official info is given out, it will be posted all over the internet, including here at blu-ray.com .

Since this is a thread about American Gangster....
I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why the Unrated Extended version says that it may not play correctlu on some DVD players. Right below that option on the menu, there is a disclaimer.

I was wondering if the DVD adds in those chapters somehow when viewing the extended version, rather than 2 complete copies of the movie.
