Default (Video) Windows XP Running on PS3

That’s right, a programmer has managed to get Windows XP running on a PlayStation 3 via Linux/QEMU.

Pretty cool, but definitely begs the question- "Why?"

I'm guessing the answer is- "Just because we could"

Well that's certainly something I wouldn't mess up with.

Only for those who know there computer stuff would go through such "tinkering" w/o getting lost through all the jargon.

Definitely not for me :P XD

I am not at all impressed with the browser the PS3 has built in. I'm not a Unix user, but ... maybe I'll need to get my hands dirty with it.

PS3 is nifty - to a point. It has some very serious limitations I think. Perhaps I just need to learn more about it - but I don't see how to network to my home PCs to access audio and video files. What external USB hard drives are supported so I can back up my disc/game info then tinker with other things without having to download 3GB of stuff?

What Bluetooth keyboard/mouse will work with the PS3 so I don't have to putz around with the controller when I want to surf the web?

etc., etc., etc. I am sure I will have a lot more 'requests' and 'questions' before I am through with things. But, mostly I love the Blu-ray playback capability!

PS3 using Linux using WinXP is just too much work. It took 10 MINUTES just to BOOT UP! Of course, that's running on emulator but you get the idea. Better to just Linux.

all external USB hard drives work
all bluetooth and USB keyboard/mouse work as well

if you can plug it in it works basically. i even got a rf wireless keyboard/mouse combo to work on mine using a usb adapter.

Well since the majority of BSODs are hardware driver crashes then it would be the PS3's fault.

Windows XP is not made specifically for the cell processor but for Intel and AMD processors only. If Windows XP runs on PS3 but it does not perform as it's suppose to then you know why
