Question Q: HDR10/DV inconsistent between Player and Receiver

Greetings;

I'm a relatively-new 4k viewer and I've noticed an odd inconsistency in my setup. I'm hoping you all can help me troubleshoot it.

When I use the "Display" option on the Blu-Ray player, the picture specs that appear are not the same as when I use the "Info" option on my receiver.

Specifically, I've observed the following. The tl/dr is:
  • All formats appear as "YCbCr 4:2:0" on the Blu-Ray player.
  • Dolby Vision content appears as RGB on the receiver.
  • HDR10 and 2K Blu-Rays appear as YCbCr 4:2:2 on the receiver.
  • Bit depth is inconsistent for all formats as well.

So... is this normal? If not, what the heck is going on? As far as I can tell, everything looks great, but I'm still trying to understand how all this color technology works, and I want to make sure I'm getting the best possible output from my system.

I suppose some of this could be caused by upscaling, but I would expect the 4K discs to transmit the data unchanged from one component to the next, and I'm most puzzled about the switch from YCbCr to RGB when I'm using Dolby Vision.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated by this 4K noob. Thanks!

The Details

My setup:
- Sony UBP-X800M2 Ultra HD Blu-Ray player
- Marantz NR1711 AV Surround Receiver
- LG 75NANO90UNA ("Nanocell") TV.

I bought all these in 2021 when we re-did our basement, but I have only started collecting 4K discs in earnest this year. There's certainly a bit of a learning curve!

On the blu-ray player, the relevant(?) settings are:
- HDR Output - Auto
- Dolby Vision - On or Off, depending on the disc.
- YCbCr/RGB (HDMI) - Auto (note that the manual options are 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and RGB).

Dolby Vision Disc (Mullholland Drive)

On the Blu-Ray Player:
- "4k/24p DOLBY VISION BT.2020 YCbCr 4:2:0 / 10bit

On the Receiver, both "Input" and "Output" show as follows:
- Resolution: 4K24
- HDR: Dolby Vision
- Color Space: RGB
- Pixel Depth: 8bits

HDR10 Disc (Thieves Like Us UHD disc):

On the Blu-Ray Player:
- "4K/24p HDR BT.2020 YCbCr 4:2:0/10bit"

On the Receiver:
- Resolution: 4K24
- HDR: HDR10
- Color Space: YCbCr 4:2:2 BT.2020
- Pixel Depth: 12bits

Regular 2K Blu-Ray disc (Thieves Like Us Blu-Ray disc)

On the Blu-Ray Player:
- "1080/24p SDR BT.709 YCbCr 4:2:0/8bit"

On the Receiver:
- Resolution: 4K24
- HDR: ---
- Color Space: YCbCr 4:2:2
- Pixel Depth: 12bits
