United Kingdom Metropolis UK vs US release?

Is there any reason to get one release over the other for those who have region-free capabilities?

Different extras. The UK has the commentary, while the US has the curator interview

Why is the UK release three minutes longer than the USA release?

Maybe the title cards have different timings? I read someone that the US was getting another release later in the year but I'll have to double-check that.

The correct running time of the US disc is 148:54 while the UK disc is 149:20. Hardly a three minute difference.

The UK edition has the original German intertitles with more accurate subtitles. It also has a superb commentary and booklet.

I'm quoting myself how meta. I checked and there's a new US version due this year with three cuts of the movie including the Giorgio Moroder version.

Do the intertitle/subtitle difference between the two blu-rays change the running times?

I ask because I ordered the Alloy Orchestra Full Metropolis Score CD that one can play along with the movie instead of the audio on the blu-ray. On the Alloy Orchestra website, they only have instructions when to start the CD when watching the USA blu-ray, and not the UK blu-ray. So that's why I'm concerned.

It's possible they have different logos or titles if that's the case, I think if they're two separate distributors then they may have different titles or logos at he beginning. The little bit at the beginning might be different as well explaining the restoration, I think it's German for our release and English for the US Kino one.

No, the Moroder is a shorter cut. It's really nothing more than a curiosity.

Looks like KINO released the Giorgio Moroder Cut separately after the 2010 release. There were rumours of a set with 2-3 cuts of the film.

A while back I heard that the London riots affected the production of this particular edition, and that it is now OOP. Looking at the amazonUK prices seem to confirm this.

I don't know about the impact of the riots, but it was always intended to be a limited release.

The steelbook was always a limited edition. It just became more limited when the remaining stock was torched in the riots

Yes. I knew it was limited, but I had read inventory was torched. I bleive Masters of Cinema tweeted it, and I jumped on eBay and grabbed mine (mint, not opened) for about $45 after shipping (I live in the US). Quite expensive now.

I suppose I'll need to buy the regular blu-ray to actually watch it!
