IS my PS3 gone??

Suddenly if i put any blu-ray movie disc on to PS3, i am getting the following error,
An error occured during the start operation(80010516).

Did any one see this error before?

Do i need to call customer service ? i bought last Januray 1st and not yet completed.Do i still have warrenty?

80010516 I've only seen this error a couple of times but seems to indicate a temporary problem with the blu-ray drive. Perhaps the disc has not been inserted correctly. The message is usually "An error occurred during the start operation. (80010516)" when you first insert a disc. Select play again and it should work ok.

I've seen it on other sites too saying

80010516 - An error occured during the start operation; Ps1 game swapped using the eject function and then play pressed quickly - ps1 game inserted again

Hopefully it's just temporary like the first quote says

Thanks for the reply.. I hard reset my PS3 and unplugged the power and replugged the power. It is reading blu-ray discs fine now.

Just thought I would add I look at all my Netflix discs before putting them in the PS3 and clean off anything if they look dirty.

Many times... I know they are brand new because it's a new release on release day (Netflix is so awesome.) But... just thought I would mention it.

Thanks for the tips Brian.. I have been watching lot of blu-ray movies from netflix. Sure i will clean it before i put onto PS3.

I wish my problem was this easy to solve. After installing 2.52, my PS3 won't play any Blu-Ray. I know it reads them: it loaded the picture icon of the BD disc for Heroes when I inserted it. But it won't play the movie when I select it. It goes to a black screen and stays there until I reset it. Try again and it does the same thing. This is Day 2. I'm getting worried.

I think thats the same error i had from a netflix disk. ended up being that the disk was defective, not just dirty...

Starting with firmware 2.50 you can now go to a restore menu that lets you re-install a firmware update or do other recovery function. See the info at the end of Post #1 on the PS3 FAQ thread I started on the AVS Forum (HERE). You could try re-installing firmware 2.52 and see if that corrects the problem.

Only tried one disc or multiples? If it's doing that for all your discs, I'd recommend to wipe the OS and start from scratch and re-update.

if the recovery function does not work...check to see that 1080p/24Hz is turned off?

Thanks for the help everyone. I reinstalled the latest firmware and now it works perfectly. I'm so happy right now. I started worrying I would have to buy another PS3. Thanks again. It means a lot. Love 'ya!

That's why I will not rent. Those rental disc are filthy and one could potentially catch ptomaine poisoning from it.

If you do rent, make sure you handle the disc only while wearing disposable rubber gloves.
