I emailed Criterion a couple of years ago when "The Red Shoes" was being released in 4K, and they responded to me saying they had no plans of upgrading their films to 4K. I should shoot them a follow-up message.

I wonder why none of the WCP films in the boxsets have made it to iTunes. Only the Film Foundation titles with standalone releases like Manila in the Claws of Light and Memories of Underdevelopment have gotten digital releases, so it doesn't seem like a rights issue but more of a "we'll make things available on iTunes at our discretion" situation. Dekalog also has no digital presence whatsoever, whether on iTunes or on the Criterion Channel. The boxset-only WCP films are all on the Channel at least.

On a side note, is there a discernible difference in quality between the HD iTunes rentals/purchases and the Channel streams?

There shouldn't be a difference, but I can't say for certain as I do not have a subscription to their service.
