Default volumes of speakers?

I have a surround sound in my room and the seating is pretty much right in the middle of the room. so should all the speakers be at the same volume. I understand when its in a living room or something that its more open and where you sit may be different so I know you might have to adust the volumes. should surrounds be lower than the rest of the speakers?

You want the sounds coming out of each speaker to be at the same volume or level. This can vary a lot based on individual speaker size, location, and orientation. The best way to set the level is with your reciever. Adjust the distance to your listening position (if applicable) and then use the test tones to set each speaker at the proper level. What is your setup?

Does your home theater receiver have a sound optimization system with a microphone, or do you own a sound level meter? If so, you can properly calibrate your speaker listening levels from your viewing position. By doing that, you'll ensure that your sound levels all match properly.

It makes a big difference.

I have the denon 2807 which does come with the microphone but it doesnt do the job ( even though many people says it works good) I thinking its because my home theatre is in a small room. it sets the subwoofer the pretty much off and if im right in the middle of the rood shoudnt the three front speakers be all at the same volume?

I bought a SPL meter from radio shack. my Yamaha V1800 did a pretty good job with its Mic and automated system, bout with the SPL meter I fine tuned it.

this is how I did mine.
