Default Analogue 3D - N64 FPGA

Analogue announced their upcoming system to play N64 cartridges; no word on if the Expansion Pak is supported or built-in, or if 64DD is supported.

Quote:
A reimagining of the N64.
4K resolution.
Original Display Modes.
Reference quality recreations of specific model CRT’s and PVM’s.
The first and only aftermarket solution supporting 100% compatibility in every region. USA, EU & JP.
Coming in 2024.
No price or pre-order info available, just the nebulous “coming in 2024.” There is a notification option at the official site linked below.

Like other products from Analogue, this is engineered via an FPGA and does not use emulation of any kind, and they specify the hardware does not play ROMs. Their other products do tend to work with EverDrive and similar devices though, which is only to save wear and tear on your actual media and totally not so you can download as many ROMs as you can find and play on real/clone/FPGA hardware…

They make great stuff but I just can't care anymore. Last year when they got MEGA SG and SUPER NT back in stock, no payment systems I tried would go through. Went with a MiSTer and haven't looked back.

And if Project MARS pans out I'm one step closer to having one box that does up to the sixth gen and I'll be okay with that.

Interested in this one, I'd love a solid HDMI solution to PS2 at some point so now we are at 64 bits we are almost there..

[I know this isn't how it works but I can dream]

Always enjoyed the N64, intrigued by a new style controller too, hopefully the sensitivity is closer to that of an original controller as most 3rd party ones still aren't quite there yet.

I'll try and get in on the initial batch as no doubt Analogue will release a future transparent colour collection on the follow up wave like the pocket just got as the N64 was prime for their fantastic colour options.

Have you checked out the Retro GEM mod from PixelFX? Works with PS2 (and PS1 and N64) with more console supported in the future.

Someone needs to work on mods to keep fat PS3s running reliably for another 30 years.

MiSTer has been on my radar but I never got around to building/buying one, definitely seems like Project MARS is the way to go if it happens.

PS3 emulation seems to be improving quite a bit, but I agree having a good repair solution for PS3 (and X360) would be great. My original PS3 died, my slim seems to be ok. I’m on a second 360 as well, and the dvd drive is pretty spotty to the point that it’s basically digital only and repair looks painful.

The 8BitDo 64 controller arrived recently, feels pretty good. I kind of lost interest in the Analogue 64, but maybe I'll be more enthusiastic when it gets here.
